Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, one of the most famous sanctuaries of the region is a heaven for a birdwatcher. Sprawling over an area of 14 acres, the bird sanctuary is home to several varieties of birds. These birds can be spotted at this sanctuary at any given time.

Migratory birds from places like Siberia can be spotted at the sanctuary. Some of the birds that can be easily spotted in this sanctuary include golden-backed woodpeckers, night herons, kingfishers, paradise fly-catchers and egrets.

The entire area was established by the government of India. It was established with an effort to preserve the natural habitat. This includes habitats of native plants like mandrakes and coconut trees along with various species of birds.
