The Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in the 15th century by Maharana Rana Kumbha and is believed to be the second major fort after Chittorgarh in Rajasthan. Located at an altitude of 1,914 metres above the sea level, it is surrounded by 13 elevated mountain peaks. The fort comprises seven gates containing seven ramparts along with the designed walls. These walls are further hardened by curved bastions and watchtowers.
The 36 km long fortification of this structure has found a place in the international records. It is considered as the second longest wall in the entire world, after the Great Wall of China. Moreover, many palaces, gardens and temples adorn the beauty of the fort complex.
Another major attraction is the Badal Mahal, which is located atop this fort. This is also known as the Palace of Cloud and is considered as the birthplace of the ancient ruler, Maharana Pratap. It has many rooms adorned with combinations of different colours like turquoise, white and green.
It is believed that this fort offered refuge to many ancient rulers of Mewar. Rana Fateh Singh reconstructed this palace in the late 19th century.
