The Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary falls under the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. Located at a distance of 65 km from Udaipur on Udaipur - Pali - Jodhpur Road, the sanctuary encircles the Fort of Kumbhalgarh.
Deriving its name from the same fort, the sanctuary is spread over an area of 578 sq km. Covering parts of Rajsamand, Udaipur and Pali districts, the sanctuary broadens across the Aravalli Range.
Apart from leopards and sloth bears, it is the only sanctuary of Rajasthan, where wolves can be traced. In the sanctuary, hyenas, jackals, jungle cats, sambars, nilgais, chausinghas (four horned antelope), chinkaras and hares can also be seen.
Visitors to the sanctuary can find pack of wolves strolling near the water sources, during the summer season. For birdwatchers there are a number of birds including grey jungle fowls, which live in the sanctuary.
In the sanctuary, peacocks and doves, along with birds like red spur owls, parakeets, golden orioles, bulbuls, doves, grey pigeons and white breasted kingfishers are traceable near the water holes.
To explore the sanctuary, tourists can opt for horse safari. Chinkaras, nilgais, four horned antelopes and many birds can be seen freely roaming on the roads of the sanctuary.
