Kuzhipillykavu Jaladurga Temple, one of the prominent temples of Hindu faith, is located in the Perumbavoor town of the Ernakulam district. It is believed that while constructing a pond at this site, the tool struck on a rudraksha shila or sacred stone and it started bleeding abundantly. Natives of the region believe that the stone has divine power of the Goddess and therefore, the temple was constructed at this site.
The name of the temple is derived from the belief that the idol emerged from water, which provided the name to the Goddess as Jaladurga. Kuzhippilly in Malayalam means a temple, which is situated in a pit dug.
The prime deity of this west facing temple is Goddess Rudraksha shila, the incarnation of Goddesses Durga, Saraswati and Bhadrakali. Besides, the other idols enshrined in the temple include Lord Ganesha, Balabhadra, Lord Ayyappa, Nagaraja, Goddess Santhi Durga and Brahmarakshas.
