Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous temple of Pauri that exhibits Hindu renaissance of the 8th century. The historic shrine is believed to have been set up by Adi Sankaracharya, founder of Advaita Vedanta. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity of the temple, who is accompanied by his consort, Goddess Parvati. The temple also enshrines idols of Ganapati and Kartikeya.
From the temple premises, tourists can have a view of the entire town and snow-clad Himalayan peaks. Alaknanda Valley in the backdrop grabs attention of visitors. Devotees visit the shrine during Mahashivaratri which is celebrated with fervour.
