This
beach has been the favorite haunt of most Europeans since the 1930s. The
Kovalam beach has wonderful Sapphire blue waters and palm trees swaying to the
salty breeze. It is known as the
paradise of the South. You can also avail of Ayurvedic massages in the nearby
resorts. The beach is located at a distance of 10kms from Thiruvanathapuram.
The
clean sands and bright sunshine during summers is an invitation to bliss. But
dont be surprised if showers suddenly break out during a bright sunny day,
because it rains frequently here. The cool sea breeze that blows in from the Arabian Sea delights the tourists as they paddle through
the waves.
As you relax and sunbathe, you can also indulge in some shopping.
There are craft stalls selling souvenirs and restaurants serving delicious
seafood along the edge of Kovalam
Beach.
The
Lighthouse at Kovalam beach is where most of the tourists spend their time. The light house is named Vizhinjam
Lighthouse and is situated on the promontory at the southern end of the beach.
The breathtaking view from the lighthouse is what attracts tons of tourists
here. It offers a spectacular view across to the Vizhinjam mosque. You can also
watch the fishermen as they follow their routine. A
memorial dedicated to Ayyanappilla Asan and Ayyippilla Asan, two 15th
century poets from Kovalam, situated near here is also an important tourist attraction. |
