Beautiful, peaceful place, Luxury rooms at affordable price

5.6/7
Posted 27 Oct, 2014

We were a family group of 12 members including kids and senior citizens. We were on summer holiday trip covering few religious and summer holiday spots. Mahabaleshwar was one of the location we visited. It was absolute marvel and the best experience of our whole trip. The stay at resort was one of the most important factors for such a pleasant experience. We booked 3 Premium Suite Rooms through online reservation site. We had our own vehicle and arrived at around noon. The whole resort is spread across vast area amongst trees and gardens and will give you a feel that you are in a true forest resort. We liked the location absolutely. It rains in Mahabaleshwar in the evenings and we had wonderful view of the Mist from the veranda (porch) in front of the our rooms. Though the room type is called a Suite it is actually a very large room (not really a suite with separate sub rooms). The rooms were vast, clean, well maintained with extremely comfortable beds and sofas. We also liked the kettles and coffee makers that were provided. The TVs were very good with option to run our own movies, videos and photos from USB sticks (pen drives). The location does not seem that you are in a hotel or hired place but you will feel that you are amongst the most peaceful place on this earth. You will enjoy the beauty of the nature to the core. It also has excellent play areas for children. The staff were very much courteous and helped us with very good information about the places to visit. The housekeeping was very good and they cleaned it very well. However, none of the staff will be available after 5pm as it is government undertaking. But we hardly felt it was a problem as they already provided all things. There was only one restaurant. It was a little bit away from our rooms (but not too far). I am not sure if all the other accommodation types also were nearer to this restaurant. The food offered at the restaurant was good. Most importantly it was affordable. The variety also was good, but I think they can expand the available varieties. But they take too long to take your order and serve. It was so long that it consumes almost 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours each time to finish with your lunch or dinner. What a waste of precious time! This was the only problem that we faced here. Mahabaleshwar is an excellent summer holiday location with lot of wonderful sightseeing places. We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days and found that it was not enough. And the resort gave us such a wonderful staying experience that I felt we can spend a whole week there and still feel it was less! I think I can just spend 1 whole day only residing the resort without any need to go out for any sightseeing! I suggest travelers to stay for at least 3 to 4 nights and enjoy the beauty and peace this location offers. I also suggest that you have your own personal vehicles for moving about comfortably. Otherwise it may get a little difficult to walk around the distances between the restaurant, room and reception and also for convenient sightseeing. You have the option of engaging local cabs for the whole day.

Overall, experience was good in the resort. Mahabaleshwar as a destination is wonderful tourist place. Environment was good there. Appearance of the resort was fine. Location wise, it was very good. Room was average. I booked it online. Check out and check in was timely. Front office staff was well spoken and helpful. Food was available there. It was delicious. I stayed for 6 days in the resort. Daily use items were available in the room like hot water, cold water, TV, bed, and clean toilet. Hotel was located very near to the temple. I went there with my family in May.

If you planning to go then please book one month prior. Resort surrounding also good, full of trees like jungle feeling. Early morning fog will say good morning to you.

A decent place to stay with excellent rooms

5.6/7
Posted 1 Feb, 2015

The setting of this resort is actually nice because you feel like you are amongst the jungle. The rooms to look for are the Krishna cottage rooms with excellent setting and warm and welcoming interiors. However if you are travelling for pure adventure and want to spend only the nights at the hotel then it's better to take the ECONOMY rooms which are priced around 1500 bucks. There is an option for a honeymoon suite and reader's room as well All bookings are online however if you could not book it beforehand you can call them up and inquire. The restaurant is pretty good and the quantity of food is huge. Also opposite to the restaurant is a body massage parlour and it is definitely worth a try. A deep tissue full body costs about 1200 bucks.

Huge room size in MTDC resort

6.3/7
Posted 2 Sep, 2015

In the long weekend of Independence Day, we visited Mahabaleshwar. It was family trip of 2N/ 3D. The trip was planned and we had made our booking in Family room at resorts. It's a massive property with 150+ rooms and spread in few acres. Our family room was huge with 2 big size master room, hall and gallery. The bedroom were well equipped with dressing table, sofas and chair. Even there were deluxe sofa and dining table in hall with LED TV. Considering a government property the hygiene and sanitation was good in room and in resort overall. Resort has couple of play area but those were not maintained well. The resort staff was very cooperative and eager to help. Though resort is not WiFi enable but it is available on request in office and reception area . Resorts offer complimentary breakfast. One can choose 2 item from option of 6, however its quality is very poor. The Poha, Upma were bland, while idly, uttapam were half cooked. However the same restaurant serves delicious food (in lunch/ dinner) when you pay them specially the Dale fry. The resort also has centre for Kerala massage. Overall its great place to stay and full value for money

Lovely cosy cottages with great locations!

5.9/7

Was visiting Mahabaleshwar for the first time with family and friends and the trip was made memorable by the stay at cottage The room was cosy and the water hot, which was a must with a young child. Telephone connectivity was limited (which was a blessing in disguise) Location was amazing - you could step out of the room and walk into a jungle (I actually saw a giant squirrel on my morning stroll) and yet it is not very far from the market The restaurant served good fare at reasonable rates Would go back if I go to Mahabaleshwar again !!!

The MTDC as with most government properties, enjoys the best location in the midst of the forest, about 2km away from the main Mahabaleshwar market. The rooms are spread in units across a vast property which used to be the erstwhile Governors estate. Off season rates are excellent value as the rooms are much larger and spacious than for comparable rates in most private hotels. The minus side being that the rooms are somewhat \'tired\' and not that well maintained. One can book online through their website or if rooms are available one can go there directly.

Located near the town’s central marketplace the MTDC resort at Mahabaleshwar is a quaint little setup which from the very moment that you enter it tells you that you are on a holiday. Unlike most other MTDC resorts the Mahabaleshwar resort is not well publicized. What I mean to say is that in all other location where we have gone to the MTDC resorts the location has been clearly indicated through boards and direction signposts. However in this case the first one we saw was just a kilometer before the resort. Anyhow we reached the resort and at the very first look it took our breath away. The resort is shrouded in greenery which is a welcome change for those assaulted daily with the view of our urban jungles. As the trees sway in the wind the swishing sound engulfs you and makes you fell relaxed. We had booked our rooms in advance and we were soon shown our rooms We had taken the double seater rooms since it was March and still quite pleasant. The rooms were fairly spacious and had good clean bathrooms as well. The rooms were equipped with television which is only useful in case you plan on staying indoors. The only disappointment was the beds. Narrow and small they are made for cozy couples and make for uncomfortable sleeping arrangements otherwise. As we were all famished we headed straight for the restaurant. Since it was about eleven we were told that we were late for breakfast and early for lunch. So we had some snacks and decided to come back later for lunch. With nothing better to do we set off for Pratapgarh which is about 26 kilometeres from Mahabaleshwar. This is the fort where the legendary confrontation between Shivaji and Afzal Khan took place and which saw Shivaji emerge victorious. Being a history buff this was an excellent treat as the location of the fort atop the mountaintop gives an excellent vantage point and overlooks the landscape around it. Soon we were back again at the anointed time for lunch and we weren’t disappointed. The kitchen served up tasty fare and since we hadn’t stuck to experimenting much we weren’t disappointed. The staff was friendly and helpful and made the meal more enjoyable. As we had started from Mumbai early in the morning we were all groggy and hit the beds soon after. The initial plan was to sleep for about two hours and then hit the exploration button. However as it happened we all overslept and were lucky to get up in time to go watch the sunset. It was awesome and simply a visual treat to see the orange globe slip below the horizon. From here we decided to cover the nature points of Mahabaleshwar the next morning and explore the market area and the lake. Although the lake was closed for boating we sat near it enjoying corn-on-the-cob. We indulged in some photographic experiments and managed to get some great close up shots of the moon and also the Orion constellation. The chill in the air soon forced us to move out of there and we went to the market, We had dinner in the market and then returned to the resort and parked ourselves for the night.

Our overall experience while staying at the MTDC holiday resort has been excellent. The resort is spread over a very big area and in natural surrounding about 1.5 km from the main market. The natural surrounding has enabled us to relax in a stress fee environment. The price I paid for the rooms was very cheap. At approx. 3000 Rs. I was staying in a 2 big bedroom and hall bunglow with two attached toilets. Although the bunglow was old style however, we enjoyed the space and the mental relaxation our accomodation provided.

we stayed in family suite no.3, the stay was very good. the rooms were very spacious. This unit had 2 bedrooms (1 with 3 beds & other 2 beds) with attached toilet with WC. the condition of the toilets was not very satisfactory, but certainly manageable. we went vis mahad-poladpur & the condition of the ambe-nali ghat is not good, although work has started from mahabaleshwar downwards. about 18 of the 40 kms are not very good. we had a great time boating in the venna lake-in this regard, i will like to mention that the best time to go for this activity is 8.45 am as one gets almost the exclusive use of the lake this early in the morning. we took a rowing boat with an oarsman (Rs.400). had a great corn pattice & strawberry ice-cream at Hirakani farm (I seriously recommend this place)
