We visited MTDC Mahabaleshwar on 22nd April to 24th April, 2016. MTDC Resort here is outside main city in calm and clean environment. We stayed in Standard room. Room rates are really economical compared to hotels in city. Rooms are very big with minimum furniture. Though it looks like old structure with old furniture and old door, windows, its loc....Read More

Top Reviews of MTDC Holiday Resort Mahabaleshwar
The MTDC as with most government properties, enjoys the best location in the midst of the forest, about 2km away from the main Mahabaleshwar market. The rooms are spread in units across a vast property which used to be the erstwhile Governors estate. Off season rates are excellent value as the rooms are much larger and spacious than for comparable rates in most private hotels. The minus side being that the rooms are somewhat \'tired\' and not that well maintained. One can book online through their website or if rooms are available one can go there directly.
Located near the town’s central marketplace the MTDC resort at Mahabaleshwar is a quaint little setup which from the very moment that you enter it tells you that you are on a holiday. Unlike most other MTDC resorts the Mahabaleshwar resort is not well publicized. What I mean to say is that in all other location where we have gone to the MTDC resorts the location has been clearly indicated through boards and direction signposts. However in this case the first one we saw was just a kilometer before the resort. Anyhow we reached the resort and at the very first look it took our breath away. The resort is shrouded in greenery which is a welcome change for those assaulted daily with the view of our urban jungles. As the trees sway in the wind the swishing sound engulfs you and makes you fell relaxed. We had booked our rooms in advance and we were soon shown our rooms We had taken the double seater rooms since it was March and still quite pleasant. The rooms were fairly spacious and had good clean bathrooms as well. The rooms were equipped with television which is only useful in case you plan on staying indoors. The only disappointment was the beds. Narrow and small they are made for cozy couples and make for uncomfortable sleeping arrangements otherwise. As we were all famished we headed straight for the restaurant. Since it was about eleven we were told that we were late for breakfast and early for lunch. So we had some snacks and decided to come back later for lunch. With nothing better to do we set off for Pratapgarh which is about 26 kilometeres from Mahabaleshwar. This is the fort where the legendary confrontation between Shivaji and Afzal Khan took place and which saw Shivaji emerge victorious. Being a history buff this was an excellent treat as the location of the fort atop the mountaintop gives an excellent vantage point and overlooks the landscape around it. Soon we were back again at the anointed time for lunch and we weren’t disappointed. The kitchen served up tasty fare and since we hadn’t stuck to experimenting much we weren’t disappointed. The staff was friendly and helpful and made the meal more enjoyable. As we had started from Mumbai early in the morning we were all groggy and hit the beds soon after. The initial plan was to sleep for about two hours and then hit the exploration button. However as it happened we all overslept and were lucky to get up in time to go watch the sunset. It was awesome and simply a visual treat to see the orange globe slip below the horizon. From here we decided to cover the nature points of Mahabaleshwar the next morning and explore the market area and the lake. Although the lake was closed for boating we sat near it enjoying corn-on-the-cob. We indulged in some photographic experiments and managed to get some great close up shots of the moon and also the Orion constellation. The chill in the air soon forced us to move out of there and we went to the market, We had dinner in the market and then returned to the resort and parked ourselves for the night.
In the long weekend of Independence Day, we visited Mahabaleshwar. It was family trip of 2N/ 3D. The trip was planned and we had made our booking in Family room at MTDC resorts. It's a massive property with 150+ rooms and spread in few acres. Our family room was huge with 2 big size master room, hall and gallery. The bedroom were well equipped with dressing table, sofas and chair. Even there were deluxe sofa and dining table in hall with LED TV. Considering a government property the hygiene and sanitation was good in room and in resort overall. Resort has couple of play area but those were not maintained well. The resort staff was very cooperative and eager to help. Though resort is not wifi enable but it is available on request in office and reception area. MTDC resorts offer complimentary breakfast. One can choose 2 item from option of 6, however its quality is very poor. The Poha, Upma were bland, while idly, uttapam were half cooked. However the same restaurant serves delicious food (in lunch/ dinner) when you pay them specially the dal fry. The resort also has centre for Kerala massage. Overall its great place to stay and full value for money
Our overall experience while staying at the MTDC holiday resort has been excellent. The resort is spread over a very big area and in natural surrounding about 1.5 km from the main market. The natural surrounding has enabled us to relax in a stress fee environment. The price I paid for the rooms was very cheap. At approx. 3000 Rs. I was staying in a 2 big bedroom and hall bunglow with two attached toilets. Although the bunglow was old style however, we enjoyed the space and the mental relaxation our accomodation provided.
we stayed in family suite no.3, the stay was very good. the rooms were very spacious. This unit had 2 bedrooms (1 with 3 beds & other 2 beds) with attached toilet with WC. the condition of the toilets was not very satisfactory, but certainly manageable. we went vis mahad-poladpur & the condition of the ambe-nali ghat is not good, although work has started from mahabaleshwar downwards. about 18 of the 40 kms are not very good. we had a great time boating in the venna lake-in this regard, i will like to mention that the best time to go for this activity is 8.45 am as one gets almost the exclusive use of the lake this early in the morning. we took a rowing boat with an oarsman (Rs.400). had a great corn pattice & strawberry ice-cream at Hirakani farm (I seriously recommend this place)
Hotels are cheaper during the off-season. No annoying tourists. Do your thing anywhere, anytime!Synonymus, a HolidayIQ traveller on his off-season break in Mahabaleshwar, "It is an ideal off-season destination for anyone want
