Macherla is located on the bank of Chandra Vanka. Located in Guntur District, the town has an average elevation of 136 m. During the reign of the Haihaya Kings, Chennakesava Swamy Temple was constructed in the town. Built around the 13th century AD, the temple has one tall Dwajastambam Swamy statue at its main gate.
This statue is covered with wood and bronze. Near this statue lie four stone figures of Srimannarayana Avataram, Sriman Mahabharatam, Sri Madbhagavathamu and Srimad Ramayanam. In the town is also located a temple dedicated Veerabhadraswamy dating from the 18th century AD. The KCP Limited has also established its factory in the town.
