Hotel Review of Surya Retreat
Comments: It was a nice pleasant comfortable stay. We travel to Mahableshwar almost every year cause that's the only decent hill station close to Mumbai. For the past few times we had stayed in Sherwood but our experience in May 07 was not very good with food as well as service levels having dropped. So we tried Surya Retreat and were quiet happy with it.
Best Experience: The personalised efficient service was very nice. The food was delecious and every meal consisted of atleast one homely vegetable which was good for children and elder people. Every buffet layout was well thought out. The room service and house keeping service was at par with many 4 star hotels.
Worst Experience: The hotel had renovation going on and the lower level of one wing was under renovation so the passage had leaking roof at some places but since the work was being done and seening the wing where renovation was completed I'm sure that by the time the monsoons end the whole hotel will be renovated. Also the rooms in the wing under renovation were not too good but these were priced around 20% lower and I was informed that these would also be renovated soon and then all rooms would be at par. The only real bad experience was using the changing room at the poolside which was like a rotting old watchmans wood cabin. But I hope they will take care of it (I did tell the manager about it when we were checking out )

Mahabhaleshwar as a destination for a weekend getaway from Mumbai is great. Motorable from mumbai thru excellent scenic roads, we reached there within 6 hours ( breaking adequately) The climate was fantastic and the view of the valley from Surya is very calendarable. For food - (It was served only between time to time at Surya- we reached at 12.45PM and were told to wait till 1.30 for buffet and 2PM for a la carte) we found an excellent...

The resort is situated at a mouth of a beautiful valley but the resort does not seem to encourage small treks to the stream behind of the mountain on the other side....
