Good nice place for pilgrimage and the darshan gives good peace of mind here. This place has value as per Hindu mythology and hence its a important place to visit. Overall vey nice to visit. If any senior is there than its better to take a very pass and do the Darshana. The general route will take more than 2 hrs. By vip made the darshan can be made in less than a hour.

Mahakaleshwara Temple is main attraction of Ujjain. But it is very crowded place. Administration is OK. People having jack of VIPs may darshan easily, otherwise it is a tough task. VIPs are taken care and can enter near the idol. Paid darshan has all locker etc facility.

"One must see Bhasma aarti"

  • 7.0/7

Superb place, lot's of temple, 2 days would be fine if you have booked bhasma aarti in advance. No need to bargain in Ujjain auto, hotel and other vendors collect reasonable price for good and service provided.
Other nearest place to Ujjain is Omkareshvar and Mumleshwar jostling which around 150 km from Ujjain. Taxi innova can be hire for one day by paying Rs 3500.

"The greatest spiritual experience"

  • 7.0/7

This temple is a must visit place for Hindus. It is one of the twelve jyotirlings in India. And the evening arti is so powerful that you can actually feel the presence and the power of Lord Shiva. The drums rise to a crescendo and you feel an out of the planet kind of experience.

"Mahakaleshwar Temple"

It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. I attended Bhasmarti on 3rd December 2016 at 4 am. The way bhasma is used in arti is worth watching. It is actually fresh and burning hot ash from a funeral pyre. With the ash the Shiva linga is 'bathed' every morning during Bhasmarti.

"Mahala darshan"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Nov 15, 2016
I went to Mahala baba darshan on the day of naag panchami. Only jyotirlinga which is uttarmukhi out of 12 jyotirlinga. Only jyotirlinga where Bhasmarti by chita bhasm is performed. It is really divine experience. Baba have created his own city Ujjain. Baba have given rojgaar to the people of vast surrounding area. Only 1 thing that I done here was I have got darshan of naag chandreshwar temple, whose kapaat only opens on naag panchami every year for 24 hour.

One has to Visit Mahakal Mandir, Ujjain at least once in their Lifetime. You can have peace of mind and can get positive energy and can forget all your avocations and can enjoy your Time. The Mahakal Temple is very very neat and a huge Temple Complex, expanding and Renovating day by day. It's one of the Twelve Jyotirlingas. You can visit the Temple for Bhasma Aarti in the early morning at about 4 AM and also Aarti in the evenings. The Temple City of Ujjain is Full of Temples, Kshipra River and many Hotels to stay from budget to Star Hotels. You can get North Indian and South Indian foods to some Extent. The Temple Activities can be viewed in TV screens from Outside the Temple also. The City of Ujjain has Jyotirlingas and ShaktiPeeth, Harsiddhi Mandir, GadKalika Mandir and many others.

"One of ancient Lord Shiva Temple"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Mar 21, 2016
Located in the holy city of Ujjain, Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is a three storeyed building. And one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva is located in this temple. The idol of Mahakaleshwar is dakshinamurti and is facing the south. People from different walks visit the temple for darshan and Puja. We were lucky to have live darshan of late night Aarti in the temple. The atmosphere in the temple is very peaceful and the temple is easily approachable from different places of the city.

The dynasty of Ujjayini has many religious thing to offer. The ranked one temple Mahakaleshwar is situated in the center of Ujjain city. One of 12 jyotirlingas has many myths and beliefs amongst the believers and scholars. Multiple aartis are offered throught the day but Bhasma Aarti is the main thing you should attend. There are two way to reach Mahakal Jyotirlinga darshan 1st way is to get queued in general line and 2nd way to purchase VIP pass which is known as Vishesh Darshan this pass can be purchases by temple committee by paying Rs. 151. Offerings are milk, belpatra flowers you can choose as per your choice. There are many small shivlings inside the temple premises. Ancient architecture of temple will definitely dip you in spiritualism. Laddu Prasad's are available in temple premises you can buy as per your convenient price by paying Rs 30, 60 or 120.

"One of a kind experience"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Mar 17, 2016
The Mahakaleshwar Temple at Ujjain has quite a history associated with it. It is said that when Aurangzeb was bent on breaking every religious hindu idol in entire country to make them "khandit" or impure, he tried to do the same with Mahakaleshwar Temple but was unsuccessful every time he tried.

Once his troops were infested with poisonous Snakes, the next time they tried to do so they got attacked by Bees and so on till they gave up finally and that's how the temple is the only one untouched by the Mughal emperor's army.

Feel the divine power flow through you and if you can, do stay for the "Bhasma-aarti". It usually takes place at 3 AM in the morning when Lord Mahakal is decorated with makeup and the ashes of a male who was cremated the night before.

Ladies are not allowed to witness the Bhasma-aarti.

It's a really long walk in the temple and there is no photography allowed.
