The Mahakali Caves were also known as Kondivita Caves earlier and are situated in the midst of Borivali National park and Aarey Milk Colony. They served as Buddhist monasteries dating back to 2000 years. Cut out of solid rock, these caves are of solid basalt, situated in the Udaygiri hills. There are 19 caves while the main cave contains stupas and Buddhist figures. It is a favorite place for archeologists, art aficionados and tourists.
