Hotel Review of Shangrila Beach Hotel
Comments: My husband loves to bike out to places. So on a spur, we decided to bike down to Goa from Pune during the 26th Jan break. From prior experience, I knew what to expect in North Goa, so I concentrated on South Goa and booked ourselves in this hotel for 2 nights. It was overall fun trip - we did a total of 1200 kms in this trip on the bike:) and enroute to Goa, also stopped over in Vengurla. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip, though the sun and heat kind of made us mad, and the over-crowded beaches in North Goa (Calangute was soo bad, that it looked like a scene from Mumbai Ganpati visarjan) made us hurry back to South Goa.
Best Experience: Well...will methodically list them down
1. Booking and reservation process over phone/email was well done. Free breakfast was thrown in as a last minute addition (will delve on this aspect again).
2. Rooms were quite decent - clean and functional.
3. Locker service was there - quite handy in stashing valuables while we went to the beaches.
4. Their restaurant 'Crab Key' was quite convenient and good, especially when u r travel weary.
Worst Experience: Hmm..will again list them down:
1. Breakfast (yes - included in our package at the last moment) felt like a charity!! Since the 'package' bfast menu was separate, we had only 6 choices. Even there, when I ordered 'continental style eggs - scrambled/boiled/poached' with toast, the restaurant staff rudely told me to eat 'masala omelette'!! I guess, as Indians, we have to be content in what we get, while the firangs sitting on the other tables, were happily ordering their own scrambled eggs!! Also, we never got any toasts/bread with out eggs...guess, I will abstain from 'free b'fasts' from now on:)
2. The shower in the tiny bathroom could have been better - its difficult to wash off salt and sand encrusted hair in a measly trickle of water.

It was great fun at Shangarila. The place is really pleasing & exciting. The ambience & service was good. The food can further be improved. Overall it was worth it - value for Money; good ROI!...
