About Malikkappuram Devi Temple

The Malikkappuram Devi Temple is situated on a small hill rock on the left side of Ayyappa Temple. It is also known as Malikappurathamma Temple and is based on the mythological stories associated with the relations between Lord Ayyappan and Devi Malikapurathamma. According to a legend, Lord Ayyappa refused the marriage proposal of Devi Malikapurathamma for being a brahmachari. However, Devi continuously tried to convince him for marriage as a result of which, Lord Ayyappan told her that he will marry her when Kanni Ayyappas comes to his shrine.

Devotees offer their prayers at this temple to a trident and lamp in the form of rolling coconuts or thengai uruttu. Stringed instruments and drums are also played at this place during a dance offered to the serpent gods. A few other shrines for Serpent gods are also present in the premises of this temple.
