About Maranakatte

Maranakatte is about 16 km from Kundapura on the route to Kollur. It has an old Brahmalingeshwara Temple, where Goddess Mookambika is believed to have killed Mookasura and performed a Marana Homam. The main sanctorum at this temple faces to the north, which also has a Bhuvaneswari Yantra in its front.

Idols of Vata Yakshi and Malayali Yakshi along with two Dwarapalakas are enshrined at this temple. Makar Sankranti is celebrated at this temple, which attracts large numbers of devotees to the temple for offering prayers. The temple is also very popular for its chariot festival.
