Marigold Sarovar Portico, Shimla
Village Sadhora, Mashobra-Naldera Road, P.O. Baldian, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh 171007
Having to travel up North from Chandigarh twice a month pertaining to needs of our research on Himalayan Folk we stumbled at The Marigold Holiday Cottages around January this year, and it's been more than our transit abode ever since. The whole premises is heart-warmingly welcoming as you drive into it. It gives a sense of belonging every time you're there. Being from Upper Mountainous Himachal we spent our childhoods in houses made of stone and wood, the same warmth transpires from the walls of the cottage. Yes, as the name tells us, they are fully functional cottages breathing like organisms. The independent structures, classic furniture and embellishments are handpicked to enrich the experience of the travellers and tourists alike. And, the whole premises is catered to state of the art maintenance with utmost dexterity. Excellence would be an understatement when we talk the services we are pampered with. First and foremost we always love the way the sense of ownership is inherited to us by the staff upon our arrival, then comes the cheering aspect of glistening bathrooms with unlimited supply of warm and cold water. The richness of the food (especially Indian and Chinese, they try their best with the Continental cuisines much the same). The comfort of woven mattresses and linens rendered to a pleasant fragrance is delightful. The apartment we stayed in was a duplex with the kitchen ventilated and well separated from the exquisite living area. Heat is something you need during the chilly winters and it taken care of with pillar heaters with unhindered supply of electricity as the power cuts are abridged by electricity generators. (Actually, central heating would have been a better option, if it was fitted during its construction, nevertheless you are always beaming with warmth). The surroundings are peaceful as is the premises, (I'm always writing as my partner plays Beethoven). And luxurious at the same time with the room servicemen always holding the edge of their seats waiting for the push of your button. Our hiking spirits were quenched the moment we stepped out to the picturesque trails of Craig Nano and Naldehra. It's joyous, it's rejuvenating everytime we are there. Plus, I should not forget to mention that description on the website was done under oath. , its truest to its minutest detail. You can easily rely on the pictures they have posted. So much to the serenity of our first experience at Mashobra, we never miss a chance to go back even it inhibits our schedules, such is the magnetism the cottages with hold. It's a crime to come to Shimla and not stay here. It is inspired, but we call it out Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
The location was nearly fifteen to twenty kilometres far from the city. The hotel was so interior from the main road. Our driver took us directly to the cottage so finding the hotel was not so difficult. When we visited the hotel it was under construction only two cottages was ready. It was a very ordinary cottage there was nothing special. The rooms allocated for us were spacious and neat. They provided heater and lavatory which was good. The services of the staff were nice and helpful. As we were in ground floor we could not find any view from the room. The external appearance was not good because the main building of the hotel was under construction. There was a small garden in the hotel. The food was not bad in quality and taste.
The hotel is not located conveniently as it was pretty far from the city. The external and internal appearance of the hotel was good. The staff in hotel were friendly and professional. The rooms were clean and well maintained with required amenities and there was an awesome mountain view from the room. The hotel management provided varieties of food and was delicious. There was no delay during check-in and check-out process. I am not aware of any energizing activities. The hotel is worth for the money which I spent.
Great location, breathtaking view of the valley, really pleasant and clean rooms, but the thing that makes this such a good place to stay are the staff. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. We travelled with lots of luggage and despite the climb up to the gate this was one of the nicest places we stayed in Shimla. Food is lip smacking and so fresh, only vegetarian though. Tough luck for the non-veggies. The location is approx 30 km from Shimla, and 5 km ahead of village Mashobra, which may be a little difficult to spot after dawn. Make sure to call the resort once crossing Mashobra and they will guide to the resort nice and fine. I would definitely love to visit Marigold resort again and this time with the whole bunch of any friends. Bonfire lit, Music on, Toasts up.
