Hotel Review of Brightlands Resort - Matheran
Comments: My first trip to Matheran and I had taken Brightlands based on a recommendation from a friend. It was more expensive than the other options I got from my agent, but was worth it. The only lacking thing was getting to the place, there was no directions although it is just a 10min walk from the station, or if there are, they are not very noticeable, so had to ask quite a few times to find the place. When we got there we found the staff very friendly. The lunch and breakfast was great, dinner could be better, but the cocktails we had were well made. Would have given a higher rating for the rooms except that considering the rate being paid (40% higher than listed here), the room we stayed in could do with some upkeeping. The hot water was only in the mornings for 2 hours, could definitely use it in the evenings. After a walk, with all the dust that fly with horses around, one will need to bathe. This is not to take anything away from the great time we had there and I would definitely keep Brightlands as first option for any future trips.
Best Experience: I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff, most resorts I have stayed at were mechanical, here the feeling was more personal. The place is also close to the lake and best part being outside (& yet close to) the market area was that we could walk around without being asked for horse rides all the time and could walk it to the market if we needed to. The location is great!!
Worst Experience: Can't rate a single worst or bad experience. Except for the slight drawbacks I mentioned earlier there was nothing out of place.

The hotel was conveniently located though the rooms had no view of the mountain. The staff was helpful. This was not our first visit to Matheran. We go once in 3-4 years from Mumbai when we get a long weekend. We just love the absence of vehicles and the shaded walks and trails....

It was great fun going to Brightlands. Other than the rooms, nothing was really fascinating and tempting. Only thing we enjoyed was staying there from a relaxation point of view and had a real good time in the pool. The swimming pool and a small slide were too good to enjoy....

who said matheran is no fun in rains? what we experienced is quite contradictory, we had a ball of a time. we chose brightlands because of our previous experience in the resort, the rooms are nice & cosy, the service good & they serve non-veg food. also the memories of past had a role to play as we even opted for the particular room. the climate was extraordinary, either drizzling at times or misty throughout. there were constant power failures...
