Overall it was decent trip . The Buffer dinners and Luches were yummies . Non veg preparation was best. The resort need to improve room amenities. The bathrooms require makeover. Overall good experiance will like to stay again!!!!

Best Experience: The Evening were really thrilling with Dj ,Magic show for kids ,Game of Tambols. Pool side drink is refreshing/

I was pretty apprehensive of the location , since most others are bang in the market. However , we realized that it was a boon, since Matheran is a red soil town and filled with tourists (noisy as always). The walk from the town is max 7 minutes. The big surprise was the facilities, activities and food. The booking people and the sales office at Mumbai somehow underplay this. They do mention these in the passing , "facilities are there", "food is available" , well , the food is lavish and the pool is spanking clean, the recreations are really there and very good, not just on the display board. We booked for a day , but rescheduled everything at our workplace and extended our stay by another day ! Prince Paul Pune

Best Experience: My wife is a stickler for clean linen (bed sheets , towels etc). Thus , we land up carrying these unless we are booked into a proper star hotel. You would be aware that vehicles are not allowed in Matheran , thus we landed up carrying all this in our haversack ! It is enough to say that my wife did not use any of our home stuff , the linen these people supplied were crisp and clean.

Worst Experience: Matheran is a non plastic hill resort. Not because of the police or the eco-consciousness of the average Indian tourist , but because of the monkey raj there. You open a packet of anything (even a Pepsi bottle) and your are finished. Even inside the resort , you are not safe !. Carry a local gulel (the Y shaped hand tool) to scare away these creatures !

I enjoyed my trip to Matheran. Place was good. The only drawback at Brightland Resort was the food. It was an amazing experience.

The destination matheran is a place to walk around and Brightlands gives you the opportunity to do just that. It is a short walk from the market. Prices are quite affordable, with amazing food. We stayed in the duplex type of room where kids could bunk up and we setttled down for 4 days. Lots of activities like treasure hunt, dancing and movies during season time. We had a great time and totally relaxed ourselves in the icy cold pool waters.

Best Experience: Best is the horse riding and walking. This and Darjelling is the only place in India with the toy train yet in action. Views are amazing from the train. Takes a lot longer to reach Neral though hence suggest you catch it on your way to Matheran and not the return.

Worst Experience: Monkeys are a terror, any bag swinging in your hands will be snatched out. Be it shoes or chikki, shops which are plenty in the market.

the resort is well laid out.The staff is courteous and responsive.the bar is well sticked and the bartender(santosh) is well versed with all kinds of cocktails. The restaurant is well lit, airy and the staff is efficient and courteous(Pappu).Although the resort advertises of a tennis court none exists, the Gym is also inadequate and ill maintained. The menace of monkeys is all over Matheran but here they keep it under check.Weekdays are better than the weekends as the crowd is less and you will get personalised treatment.A nice swimming pool.

Best Experience: The staff went out of their way to look after us.

I and my husband and our family friends had visited Matheran and had stayed in Brightland Resort for 2 nights. We enjoyed visiting all the points eg.Echo point etc., on horseback. The weather being cool minus pollution and full of oxygen. .It was an amazing experience never to forget.

Best Experience: The best expereince was riding on horse back and winning of Housie Games and the dance party.

Worst Experience: The worst experience was of monkeys. I was carrying a packet of fruits which the monkey pulled it from my hand.

Matheran is always a special place for people living in Mumbai.. This is my 5th visit in as many years. You should visit Matheran during the rains or winter.. The place is a beauty. As it is the only hill station wherein vehicles are not allowed, the nature is untouched and you can breath 100% oxygen :).

Best Experience: Brightlands resort stay was a great experience, they have a nice place and it is well kept. Service is also good. But the best part is the food, they spread is good and worth the money they charge.

Worst Experience: Nil

If you desire a quiet place free of noise and sounds, free of CO and CO2, there is nothing like Matheran. It is a tiny hill station free of pollution, all of the vehicular kind, not very far from the city of Mumbai - just ideal for a re-charge over a week end. A 100 kms of pleasant drive from Mumbai, provided you manage to get out of city before many vehicles come out on the roads, a left turn from the old Mumbai - Pune Highway beyond Panvel, you will find a way to Katraj and before you find the town of Katraj, you take a left turn again to start climbing to reach this little heaven in woods, all above 800 meters from the Mean Sea Level. You need to negotiate at least one steepy climb, strictly in first gear ! You can only reach up to Dasturi, beyond which no vehicles are allowed. If you love your car carry a cover which can be properly tied / locked, particularly when you are on an overnight stay or on a 2 day trip. Horse rides and human driven rickshaws, mostly for the senior citizens or very lazy species are abundantly available to take over from this stage. There are other interesting options, i.e., you take a heritage toy train from Nerul which takes couple of hours thru a serpentine tiny track, to climb thru the western ghats to reach right upto Matheran. You have the option of a day visit, where in you can walk, walk and walk throughout the day and return on the same evening and if you really want to sink in to the environs of green trees and brown woods and do not want to miss a sunrise / sunset, staying one night is a must. There are good options like Brightlands Resort (Contact : 022-43333444 and 02148-230831) and Kumar Plaza ( 09403062444 and 02148 230329) where you can spend a night with a bit of planning and booking at a price of Rs.2,000 per person (all of breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner included). There are points, points and points all over Matheran, but the fun is in walking thru or riding over a horse through the muddy woods. Mud is the essence, sine the name Matheran itself has come from Mathe ( a equivalent of mud in marathi). There is a small lake and a micro dam with chill static waters where you would feel like soaking your feet after a not so familiar 8s and 10s of kms of walk. Amongst other important places to visit, there is this Echo Point, Monkey Point and that Panorama Point. If you are adventurous type there is a serious option of crossing the valley over on a rope and a smaller version of the same at Charlott Lake for not so adventurous or kids. You need a good and comfortable pair of shoes and a light and comfortable wear to take you through the day. Could be chilly in the winters. For the shopping freaks, there is some scope to buy interesting and colourful dry plants, thin and light handmade chappals and all other routine hill station stuff !!! Any time of the year must be okay but the weeks immediately after the monsoon, the place must be beautiful. You won\'t realize that you had walked a full 12 to 15 kms over a two day stay, unless you sit and calculate, particularly since the place is so kleeen of pollutants that you never get tired. Don\'t forget to check your weight immediately after te trip and a pleasant surprise awaits you !!!

Best Experience: Just walking around in this zero pollution land is in itself a fresh and enriching experience.

Worst Experience: No.

Matheran is a perfect weekend getaway, my wife & i had gone there to chillax and unwind and it is so quiet here that you can hear your mind slow down to tranquility.

Best Experience: Just walking around matheran or horse riding if u get too tired to walk any furthur. We had an amazing walk to sunset point and back. Took us an hour to get there and another hour back but was completely worth it.

Worst Experience: A monkey stole my peanuts right out of my hand. Thieving monkeys! Next time i\'ll be ready.........with a camera.
