Mawsynram Overview

Ranked 14 of 43 sightseeing in Shillong

Fondly known as the place to record the highest amount of rainfall on the planet, Mawsynram is an enchanting little village situated in the East Khasi Hills district of the state of Meghalaya. Flourishing with healthy green flora and fauna, the village is bound to appeal to the traveller in you, bringing out those suppressed feelings that get buried in our everyday corporate world.

The botanical garden at Mawsynram is rich with varied and rare varieties of plants and fruits. If you are a fan of magnificent rock formations, do visit the Dwarksuid – a beautiful pool which is surrounded by eye-catching rocky banks. Mawjymbuin Cave is another popular place which houses speleothems that have naturally been moulded to take the shape of a Shivalinga. The village is very near to Bangladesh and the country’s fast-flowing and magnanimous rivers can be seen from the flat top of Symper Rock.

everybody who goes to shillong-cherrapunji....should go to this place..there is a natural cave with a naturally made Shiva linga..water trickles down on the Linga from above all the can hear a stream of water flowing across at the very bottom....but it is extremely difficult to reach there..the natural flora & fauna gives a thrill to the nature lovers...

With rains for company

Around 3 hours from Shillong, is the rainiest place on planet earth. Funny though, you will find the place wet, with a light drizzle but rarely will you find it raining cats and dogs. Must visit for the caves nearby.

Serene place with amazing beauty

Mawsynram is presently considered the wettest place on earth. I am very much confident that everyone visiting Mawsynram would surely like the place. There are many waterfalls in the place. The road from Shillong to Mawsynram is awesome. The journey is superb with breath taking view all around.

In Mawsynram, there is a cave called the Mawjymbuin Cave, known for a massive shiv ling shaped stalagmite..beautiful setting all around, like at every destination in Meghalaya, expect some climbing up n down a flight of stairs..this place apparently clinched the title of wettest place on the earth from cherrapunji.
