About Mawsynram

Fondly known as the place to record the highest amount of rainfall on the planet, Mawsynram is an enchanting little village situated in the East Khasi Hills district of the state of Meghalaya. Flourishing with healthy green flora and fauna, the village is bound to appeal to the traveller in you, bringing out those suppressed feelings that get buried in our everyday corporate world.

The botanical garden at Mawsynram is rich with varied and rare varieties of plants and fruits. If you are a fan of magnificent rock formations, do visit the Dwarksuid – a beautiful pool which is surrounded by eye-catching rocky banks. Mawjymbuin Cave is another popular place which houses speleothems that have naturally been moulded to take the shape of a Shivalinga. The village is very near to Bangladesh and the country’s fast-flowing and magnanimous rivers can be seen from the flat top of Symper Rock.

The villagers are simple folk and are known for their warm and hospitable nature. You will surely be treated with their delectable version of tea, called ‘Kwai’, and will be offered to take shelter in their comfortable houses. In all, Mawsynram will touch your soul and leave it completely refreshed!

"The wettest place on Earth"

  • 7.0/7

It is the wettest place on Earth. Every time there is rainfall, and this place is covered with fog. You must carry an umbrella. When you travel in a car, the scenes that you get to see around is really wonderful.

"Experience the thrill"

Everybody who goes to Shillong-Cherrapunji....should go to this place. There is a natural cave with a naturally made Shiva Linga. You can hear a stream of water flowing across at the very bottom, but it is extremely difficult to reach there. The natural flora and fauna gives a thrill to the nature lovers.

"With rains for company"

  • 5.5/7

Around 3 hours from Shillong, is the rainiest place on planet earth. Funny though, you will find the place wet, with a light drizzle but rarely will you find it raining cats and dogs. Must visit for the caves nearby.

Mawsynram is presently considered the wettest place on earth. I am very much confident that everyone visiting Mawsynram would surely like the place. There are many waterfalls in the place. The road from Shillong to Mawsynram is awesome. The journey is superb with breathtaking view all around.

"Stalagmites"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Oct 6, 2013
In Mawsynram, there is a cave called the Mawjymbuin Cave, known for a massive Shivling shaped stalagmite. Beautiful setting all around, like at every destination in Meghalaya, expect some climbing up and down a flight of stairs. This place apparently clinched the title of wettest place on the earth from Cherrapunji.
