Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of around 247 sq. km and has the vegetation cover of semi-evergreen, evergreen and moist deciduous forests of the Western Ghats. It also has small patches of teak plantations and is home to animals like slender loris, gaur, jackal and many more. Bird species that can be spotted in this sanctuary are yellow bulbul, scarlet minivet, Malabar pied hornbill and Malabar grey hornbill, among others.
This sanctuary is an extended part of Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. Nature camping and trekking are some of the activities that can be enjoyed in this sanctuary. The best season to visit this wildlife sanctuary is from November through March.
