Moti Talao is a lake located in front of the Sawantwadi Palace in the Konkan region. The town once belonged to the royal family of the Bhonsles and has ruins of some of the buildings constructed by them.
The lake is known as Moti Talao because the labourers who constructed the lake, were paid in pearls instead of money. Initially the rulers decided to construct two palaces at the site; however, the idea was dropped after the excavation. Instead of another palace, the rulers decided to create a huge water reservoir in front of the existing palace.
Watersports such as fishing and boating are available at the lake. The lake remains open throughout the day; however, tourists mostly visit the lake between 9 am and 8:30 pm.
