This place is located at a distance of 20 km from Naukuchiatal. Set at a height of 2,285 m above sea level, Mukteshwar got its name from a 350 year old temple, Mukteshwer Dham, whose main deity is Lord Shiva. The top of the mountain on which Mukteshwar Dham stands, offers a complete view of the surrounding Himalayan region and the place was developed by the British as research and education institute, by setting up the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in 1893.
