"Mukteshwar - a great location..."

  • Posted Sep 5, 2009
Mukteshwar - a great location for those who love to be away from the humdrum of city life.........calmness, serenity and the stillness of the mountain life are your companions at the place, and the hotel also respects the same. They let you be by yourselves and are only available at your call - the signs \'do not disturb\' are redundant here ! Morning/ evening walks are pretty refreshing - the weather very unpredictable : clouds and the sun playing hide-n-seek perpetually. View of the Himalayan ranges as also the sunset, which are so much talked about, gave us a miss as it was cloudy most of the time of our stay. Mukteshwar is also a hub of herbs - basil, parsley, thyme, rosemary, oregano - all are available here. So pasta lovers should not forget to pick up their seasonings !

Best Experience: Good location of the resort. On a clear day, I assume one is able to get a good view of the Himalayan ranges. Food is simple and the staff accommodates to your taste, if necessary. Feel-at-home green environs. To top it all, a good balance between respect for the Nature and providing basic facilities within the room is maintained by the resort, which is well appreciated.

Worst Experience: The day we reached, we were greeted by a downpour - we were told that it had not been raining for quite some time in that area. Our hopes of sighting the Himalayan ranges were shattered as it stayed cloudy even the next day - we at best saw the picture/ photograph of the ranges put up in the restaurant and the room. :-( But the brighter side is that there will be an excuse to go back to Mukteshwar..... During our stay, there was perhaps one more room that was occupied by another couple - the resort put us up adjacent to their room. Unfortunately, the walls just work as partitions and are not sound-free. Unfortunately, our request to provide us another room was declined which was pretty disappointing.

"This place was exactly what..."

  • Posted Sep 5, 2009
This place was exactly what we needed after two weeks in hot and hectic Delhi - a little piece of paradise nestled in the beautiful Kumaon hills. Incredibly helpful staff, delicious food, beautiful surroundings and ample opportunities for relaxation and adventure. Highly recommended.

Best Experience: The highlight was a daytrip to the river, where we spent the morning swimming and scrambling over rocks. Meanwhile, our guides lit a fire on the beach and served us much-needed hot tea when we finally emerged from the river. We also enjoyed the bonfire at night.

Worst Experience: No

"A nice, quaint, clean place..."

A nice, quaint, clean place with lots of greenery and flowers. The area consists of a group of cottages surrounded with trees and unique flowers. It is a nice place to relax. The food served is excellent, especially non-vegetarian. There is a big garden in front of the dining room which offers a nice view of the hills. Room service is prompt.

Best Experience: The view of the mountains and the clouds from our cottage was superb. They have a chocolate shop which sell European style chocolates and local artifacts - well worth a visit. Enjoyed a game of table tennis in the games room. The owner Mr. Gupta is a gentleman and very helpful. He helped us in our transport to a train station which was about 100 kms from the resort and himself drove us halfway through when the driver did not turn up on time!!!!

"Look out of the bay..."

  • Posted Jul 30, 2009
Look out of the bay window right at the snow peaks, or walk around to the other side of the ridge to take in an awesome sunset? That\'s the difficult choice you love to make. Mountain Trail has a tremendous location. We loved the rooms, too, with their picturesque sit-out / bay windows. They are designed to feel more like independent cottages - good amount of privacy, and a lot of natural charm. I love the feel of the place - it let\'s you experience where you are, rather than be a perfectly manicured, pretty plastic 5-star. Feels great to open your window and have a cloud come swirling in!

Best Experience: The short walk to the tea stall, and the tremendous monsoon sunsets (as you sip \'organic\' tea) are things we won\'t easily forget. I could write more, but why spoil the surprise for others? Fantastic views, I clicked over a hundred pictures. The food at the Mountain Trail restaurant is good, but their continental fare is outstanding. Truly exceptional when you consider you\'re sitting at 7000 feet on a remote hill-side.

Worst Experience: Service was a bit slow at times; we got the feeling they were a couple of people short on the serving staff. But then, we\'d gone in the rains and that\'s off season...

"Mukteswar is an ideal Delhi..."

  • Posted Jul 21, 2009
Mukteswar is an ideal Delhi get-away from me and Mountain Trail, the perfect catalyst. If you are looking to relax amidst natural greens, dine on great food, gather magnificent views of the himalayas, mountain trail is just the place. The linear strip of land with its modest cottages are camouflaged by the natural terrain. The layout and the beautiful plantation enables the hill to subsume the entire resort into its own texture.

Best Experience: I could just put my feet up and read endlessly sitting in the lawns in complete peace. well occasionally \'disturbed\' by whiff of cold breeze or a bird\'s chirp!
