Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka, is located in the Baba Budan Giri Range of the Western Ghats. Standing at an altitude of 1,930 m above sea level, it is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. Tourists can relax at this site that maintains a temperature range of 20 0Celsius to 25 0Celsius. The mountain range features grasslands, rugged rocks along the trek path and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on its peak.

The trek route begins from Sarpadaari, which is connected with Chikmagalur by road. Located in the Baba Budan Giri range of the Western Ghats, the mountain peak is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris after Chembra, Banaura and Vellari Mala peaks located in Kerala.

For adventure enthusiasts, the location offers an opportunity to engage in activities like mountain biking, trekking and road biking.

"Bike ride from Bababudangiri to Mullayanagiri"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
It was drizzling all the time. Fog covered the mountains with no good visibility of the roads when travelling. But was an adventurous experience.

While returning the fog had cleared, making the dense forest a treat for the eyes.

There is a temple at the top of the mountain, to reach we need to climb some steps, but the view from the temple of the surrounding forest is spectacular.

All nature's lovers out there do not dare to miss this heaven. I went in the month of November which is a perfect place and season to visit. Do not plan to travel in Rainy season as the road are not well maintained. You should visit in early morning, we reached top of hill around 6:30 AM else late evening when sun is about to set. I'm pretty much sure you will love it.

"Cool place to visit any time of the year"

  • 7.0/7

I visited this place in September and the place was fully covered with FOG. Reaching the top of Mullayanagiri is bit adventurous as the road is not in good condition. But once you reach the top you can see the view of a Lifetime.

The view is so beautiful that you don't feel like coming back.

Must visit place.

Pls Note: If you are planning to take small car or lesser powered car, better to park the car at Sitalayanagiri and trek from there or take a 4WD Jeep if you are going with Family.

"Scaled the trecherous road to glory"

  • 5.5/7

The beauty of Mullayanagiri is best seen during dawn hours. The road is treacherous and is best attempted only if one is confident of one's car's road manners. I had the good fortune of being stopped in my tracks before peak by a gentleman who had given up the climb on his XUV. That was 500m short of the parking spot and just before the final climb. After I parked the car and walked further to see the climb, with no side skirting on the broken gravel, I mentally thank him. It would have been downright dangerous to attempt this one in FWD car, despite having seen some bikes doing this stretch without much of a drama.

The view from the pinnacle point is breathtaking, and you can sit there for hours soaking in the grandness of the vistas around you.

There is a temple too at the peak which was closed when we went.

"Location and view from the top is awesome"

There is a temple located on top of the Hill. Till steps you can go by Car. There are around 100-150 steps. Location and view from the top is awesome and take more snaps. As I understand from the guide, rainy season is the best time for sightseeing as it's more scenic compared to Summer.

Lush Green view and Gentle Track, peaceful and Tranquil Place. Must be ready for some Hike to reach the best places.

Many scenic view as you take the hike, temperature is pleasant during day but gets cold in the evening. Carry some Water with you. The place is still not spoilt and has many natural charms.

"Good place to Trek"

  • 5.5/7
  • Posted Mar 6, 2016
The Mullayanagiri Peak is a star attraction in Chikmagalur as it is the tallest peak in Karnataka. The drive towards the peak is very tricky, hence need to be very careful. There are also private Jeeps available for hiring. On the way to the peak there is an old temple and then when we take the last 400 steps by foot too there is a Shiva Temple at the top of the mountain. From the top there is a good view of the valleys, other peaks and the picturesque Ayyanakere Lake. Worth climbing the peak.

"Trek to hill with a great view"

  • 5.0/7

We climbed to Mullayangiri with our 2 years old daughter. It offered amazing view from the top. No food or water is available once you start climbing the hill so make sure that you have enough of it stocked with you.

"A nice trekking place"

Highest peak of Karnataka and one of the best trekking place. Sunset view is spectacular. There is a temple located below which is a tourist attraction mainly due to its cave. But cave access is blocked these days.

"This place suits for family, couples, road trip and hiking"

  • 7.0/7

Heavenly spell from Ravens. This place suits for family, couples, road trip and hiking. At peak we observed a sudden change in climate as the mist starts popping up. We have a 360C view of Chikmagalur from hilltop. For the final journey we have to take some steps.
