Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka, is located in the Baba Budan Giri Range of the Western Ghats. Standing at an altitude of 1,930 m above sea level, it is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. Tourists can relax at this site that maintains a temperature range of 20 0Celsius to 25 0Celsius. The mountain range features grasslands, rugged rocks along the trek path and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on its peak.

The trek route begins from Sarpadaari, which is connected with Chikmagalur by road. Located in the Baba Budan Giri range of the Western Ghats, the mountain peak is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris after Chembra, Banaura and Vellari Mala peaks located in Kerala.

For adventure enthusiasts, the location offers an opportunity to engage in activities like mountain biking, trekking and road biking.

"Mullayanagiri- The apogee of Karnataka" new review

If you are planning to go over here, do plan so that you get a chance to be on the hilltop during sunrise/sunset. It's a beautiful sight to see, you above the clouds in a cool and breezy atmosphere makes you amazed and relaxed. Do carry your camera fully charged as each and every single step on the mountain is worth capturing.

"Felt like in Heaven" new review

  • 7.00/7
  • Posted 4 weeks ago
We visited this place as an afterthought visiting Kemmangundi. We had thought to skip it though. If we hadn't visited then we would have missed one of the wonderful experiences we had on this mountain. It was like in clouds. This is the highest mountain peak in Karnataka. We had beautiful picturesque scenes on the way to top. The road to the top is quite narrow at places and driving is very very dangerous at times. The roads are also not well maintained.

Till some point you can drive by yourself if you have some experience in driving in ghat sections and mountain roads. But beyond some point it becomes really very very dangerous to drive due to bad road and curves and very very steep road as you move closer to top. Hence, I strongly advise you to go with an experienced driver. We had to return when the top was 3 KMS as it became difficult to drive in the narrow, steep roads.

"We could see the whole city from the top"

Great place. Loved the high peak from where we could see the whole city. Took a packaged tour so had no difficulty in reaching there as the driver knew it all. Also visited a temple and it was overall a nice experience.

"Breathtaking view, gaze upon the beauty of the hills"

  • 7.00/7

Mullayanagiri is the Scottish Alps of India. The view is breathtaking and mind boggling. Initial ghat roads are normal but the final stretch is very challenging for the vehicles. View from your vehicle will make you want to keep seeing it and not drive, which is dangerous :)

There are 2700 steps to climb to reach the temple, which is the peak of Mullayanagiri. Gale winds from all sides will make you float. The view from the peak is breathtaking with Clouds beneath you and sometimes passing through you. You can even trek down the mountains and go to other mountains.

Always a beautiful place to visit, be careful of the bad road which has not been repaid for years. You get to buy some snacks at high rate, better be prepared.

"A truly awesome place"

  • 6.00/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
I was here on the morning of Christmas 2014. The peak is super awesome if you go in early morning at 6, you can stay there for 3 hours easily, get your DPs for fb and whatsapp. Dont forget to go to the 2 caves that are behind the temple at the top, they are generally not known to people so they forget to go there, they are awesome truly.

"Nature at its best"

  • 6.00/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
It was like climbing up to the top of the world and have a paranoiac view of the Chikmagalur town. The road is good and you can take your vehicle all the way to the top. Be aware during monsoon as it can be a little risky.

"Perfect place to soak in Nature"

  • 6.00/7
  • Posted 3 months ago
Mullayanagiri was a wonderful experience for us on the two occasions we visited there. Probably because both the times were in the monsoon season. It is an amazing monsoon destination around. It was fully covered with mist and the heavy sodden wind was nearly pushing us down all the while we were climbing the steps up. At the top the wind was swirling around the tip with a humming it was a true solace.
