voted as clean

Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka, is located in the Baba Budan Giri Range of the Western Ghats. Standing at an altitude of 1,930 m above sea level, it is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. Tourists can relax at this site that maintains a temperature range of 20 0Celsius to 25 0Celsius. The mountain range features grasslands, rugged rocks along the trek path and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on its peak.

The trek route begins from Sarpadaari, which is connected with Chikmagalur by road. Located in the Baba Budan Giri range of the Western Ghats, the mountain peak is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris after Chembra, Banaura and Vellari Mala peaks located in Kerala.

For adventure enthusiasts, the location offers an opportunity to engage in activities like mountain biking, trekking and road biking.

"Beautiful place to trek"

It was an amazing place, it is best if you have a vehicle of your own. One must carry cameras and food there are not any good hotels around. Carry less luggage as you have to trek a lot.

"Go trekking around the green hill"

  • 2.00/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
If you have done enough treks around Bangalore, this place is completely a waste of an effort. View is quite average and there is nothing special on the top. BR hills and others seem to be a better option any day. Or simply just go hike on other hills covered in green during the rainy season - way better than such a crowded hill.

"Great place but drive with caution"

  • 5.50/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
A very scenic hill station. The drive up-to Sivagiri - 3 km before summit is great, but after that it gets deadly. Gradient becomes very steep and massive pot holes at hairpin bends make this stretch unmotorable except for 4 wheel drives. Do not attempt this stretch cause the road is narrow and there are no safety barriers on the roadsides. It's a sheer drop at the edge of road. Reversing requires great skill and a U turn can be attempted only by local taxi drivers. No safety signs, no warnings, nothing. Even the locals don't tell you what you are in for. Deadly dangerous to attempt the summit by car unless and until the roads are repaired. Walking up the road from Sitagita is the best option for now. Parking space is available next to the famous temple here. Just 3 km walk.

"Nice place to visit"

  • 5.00/7

Nice place to visit when in Chikmaglur. Unfortunately, for us, the road was closed about 4 km before Mullayanagiri and we parked our vehicle and walked up all the way to the temple. Good opportunity to burn our calories, though.

Want to feel if you are on top of the world? Visit Mullayangiri and feel the breeze of the moving clouds. Ensure you are leaving the place by 5 pm. Otherwise, return drive will be difficult, due to fog.
