Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka, is located in the Baba Budan Giri Range of the Western Ghats. Standing at an altitude of 1,930 m above sea level, it is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. Tourists can relax at this site that maintains a temperature range of 20 0Celsius to 25 0Celsius. The mountain range features grasslands, rugged rocks along the trek path and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on its peak.

The trek route begins from Sarpadaari, which is connected with Chikmagalur by road. Located in the Baba Budan Giri range of the Western Ghats, the mountain peak is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris after Chembra, Banaura and Vellari Mala peaks located in Kerala.

For adventure enthusiasts, the location offers an opportunity to engage in activities like mountain biking, trekking and road biking.

It is an awesome place to visit. It is very refreshing. You won't feel tired even after 3-4 kms of trekking as the view and the climate will be so amazing at the top. It is actually an underrated place. Advice to travellers- Wear sports shoes for the trek it would be easy. Things to carry-Water bottles, fruits may be.

"Awesome and excruciating trek to the muliyangiri peak"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted 1 month ago
It was an awesome as well as excruciating trek of 2 km to reach the temple. Awesome because of the scenic beauty throughout the trek. Excruciating because the walk is uphill task. After a 1km walk, we need to climb the steps and thats where it gets scary. Powerful wind, rain and the fog (actually its clouds) makes your trek scary. Avoid taking children with you and also be well protected with rain coats as well as wollen clothes. Your umbrellas might turn upside down so better carry spare ones and strong umbrellas

"Nice view and feel on the top"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
This is the highest peak in karnataka. Its around 300km from Bangalore abd 22km from chikamagaluru. The road after chikamagaluru is small abd some places its not in good condition. Cars can easily go till the top. Travelers abd bigger vehicles are not advised to go till the top because it creates problem for other vehicle. They can park 2. 5km before the top abd go to the top by trekking.
There is a temple on the top. The view from the top is very good. Also with fog you will get a nice feel as well. Best time will be in the morning. Evening is also good during June to December.

The place is simply awesome ... Scenic beauty is amazing if we go to the extreme top of that hill .. One should experience the feel by being there only can't explain in words. We can actually feel the fresh air. On the way to mullayanagiri we have few dplaces to visit like buttermilk falls and a temple is also there. I can assure an ultimate destination for vacations.

Cool land nice place to visit with friends and family. The road to the peak is little bit small not wide enough, but a good driver for four wheeler will manage. There's shiv Temple at the peak to reach there one have to climb through stairs.

Its one of the beautiful places in Karnataka and just 260 kms from IT Hub, Bangalore city. This place is great for Honeymooners, families, Solo travellers and for Trekkers. One can have the experience of nature, feel clouds & get tranquillity. Travellers need to carry warm clothes and trekking shoe. Day travellers need to carry food so that they spend full day and have great experience of sunset. People can stay in Chikkamagluru town, which is close and & people who can afford can stay in Trivik a 5 star resort and visit other Divine towns around. People can also do a day trip from Bangalore and return back.

"Bike ride from Bababudangiri to Mullayanagiri"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Jun 20, 2016
It was drizzling all the time. Fog covered the mountains with no good visibility of the roads when travelling. But was an adventurous experience.

While returning the fog had cleared, making the dense forest a treat for the eyes.

There is a temple at the top of the mountain, to reach we need to climb some steps, but the view from the temple of the surrounding forest is spectacular.

All nature's lovers out there do not dare to miss this heaven. I went in the month of November which is a perfect place and season to visit. Do not plan to travel in Rainy season as the road are not well maintained. You should visit in early morning, we reached top of hill around 6:30 AM else late evening when sun is about to set. I'm pretty much sure you will love it.

"Cool place to visit any time of the year"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted May 26, 2016
I visited this place in September and the place was fully covered with FOG. Reaching the top of Mullayanagiri is bit adventurous as the road is not in good condition. But once you reach the top you can see the view of a Lifetime.

The view is so beautiful that you don't feel like coming back.

Must visit place.

Pls Note: If you are planning to take small car or lesser powered car, better to park the car at Sitalayanagiri and trek from there or take a 4WD Jeep if you are going with Family.

"Scaled the trecherous road to glory"

  • 5.5/7
  • Posted May 10, 2016
The beauty of Mullayanagiri is best seen during dawn hours. The road is treacherous and is best attempted only if one is confident of one's car's road manners. I had the good fortune of being stopped in my tracks before peak by a gentleman who had given up the climb on his XUV. That was 500m short of the parking spot and just before the final climb. After I parked the car and walked further to see the climb, with no side skirting on the broken gravel, I mentally thank him. It would have been downright dangerous to attempt this one in FWD car, despite having seen some bikes doing this stretch without much of a drama.

The view from the pinnacle point is breathtaking, and you can sit there for hours soaking in the grandness of the vistas around you.

There is a temple too at the peak which was closed when we went.
