The Archaeological Museum also known as the Christian Art Museum was built in the year 1964 attracting many tourists since then. On entering the museum you will be transported into the golden era of Goa when the Portuguese still ruled Goa. There are eight galleries in the museum which can be described as eight different sections of the museum. There are several displays here and among them are sixty portraits of governors and viceroys of Goa. There is a wooden statue of St. Peter as well. It also has an exceptional collection of Hindu gods and goddesses and a standing statue of Lord Vishnu along with Goddess Laxmi and Garuda on either side.

The museum which is open from 10 am to 5 pm every week day except on Mondays, displays a priceless collection of Goa's rich art and craft, objects made of gold and precious stones, ivory images, image of St. Francis Xavier in a silver casket, etc. Some prominent displays of this museum is the depiction of Christ as a symbolic shepherd watching over his flock, middle and upper Paleolithic stone tools, Microliths and a few Neolithic Celts, a six meter high statue of Alfonso de Albuquerque, excavated materials from Chandnor, copper coins and copper nails, rings from third century B.C etc.
