Mussoorie food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Mussoorie has a beautiful nature walk known as 'Camel's Back Road'. This road takes its name from mountain outcrop in the shape of a camel's hump. Along the camel back, a beautiful cemetery is located about mid-way on the loop. There is also 'Gun Hill' where cannons were kept for the defense of Mussoorie. Gun Hill is accessible by the cable car on the Mall road. The oldest Christian church in the Himalayas, St Mary's, is situated above Mall Road, and is currently undergoing restoration. Kempty falls is a nice picnic spot. Company Garden is popular tourist destination. During season, the Company Garden has beautiful collection of flowers and plants. Happy Valley has a small Tibetan temple. This was the first Tibetan temple built in India. The temple was constructed in 1960 by the Tibetan refugees. Lal Tibba is another tourist spot of Mussoorie. Beautiful Dhanaulti is about 24 kilometers from Mussorie. Mussoorie also had India's largest roller skating rink. To find the spicy Garwali food has become a difficult task. If one can, Garwali chicken, Dal Tadkas are must haves. The spicy appetizing dishes are definitely a food lovers' delight. Besides this, the yummy Veg Maggi near Kempty Falls is a treat by itself

Hotel Review of GMVN Garhwal Terrace
Comments: We booked the GMVN Garhwal Terrace from their New Delhi office as earlier we had a great experience with their Shishamjhari resort in Rishikesh at the banks of the Ganges.Hoping for the similar kind we reached Mussoorie on 29 sep.Since it had rained incessantly for the past 3 days before we reached, the weather was very cold and misty.
The hotel is located bang in the middle of the mall rd,from where it is easy to go to either end of the mall rd.But we were disappointed with the tiny lobby and the small super deluxe room, quite contrary to the large and well maintained lobby and amazing views of the Ganges and the Ram Jhoola from the room balcony in Rishikesh. There was no balcony in the room there was seepage all over the hotel-might be due to the monsoon.Of course the mist and the clouds playing around made for good views but the position of the windows in the room was not at all comfortable,we still managed to click few pictures of the misty mountains from the window. The deluxe room is for 800 bucks and is located down the stairs below the lobby(not a basement) and the super deluxe rooms for 990 bucks are elevated on the 1st floor-the deluxe rooms,we were told at the Delhi office, were smaller and hence we had opted for the super deluxe which itself turned out to be small as compared with Shishamjhari resort.

The cable tv got disconnected on 1st oct as GMVN had not paid the money and that was bad considering we were in Mussoorie for 4 days and gradually realised that there was not much to do outside. The typical tourist spots like Kempty falls,Company Garden etc...are best avoided as they are over rated, overcrowded and littered.Imagine how bad Mussoorie can get in the peak season of may-jul!!
So people, forget them, instead head on to Surkanda Devi temple which according to the locals is a must visit. It does take a toll on your feet but the temple is completely worth it.Another point called Lal Tibba above Landour Bazaar provides views of the Himalayas,Tibet,Gangotri,Yamunotri,Shimla. The clouds obscured our views partially but one will get good views from nov-mar,only the drive which is through Landour bazaar is extremely testing-very narrow road and conjusted bazaar. The Mussoorie-Dhanolty drive of approx 1.5 hrs was beautiful but Dhanolty itself has nothing to offer except a GMVN resort and few others. The taxi stand for such tours is beyond the library bazaar end from where one can see snow capped mountains.

Most importantly trust your instincts and venture off to nearby hills-who knows, you may find better hotels and fantastic views which is what one family did,who travelled from Doon to Mussoorie with me and my husband in a GMVN cab.
Apart from the mall rd,kulri bazaar, the library area you should also visit the famous author Ruskin Bond's home.

Food at the GMVN hotel is good, you can also try out hotel Padmini Niwas on the mall rd itself for decent Gujarati thalis,Green in Kulri Bazaar, any other decent looking and crowded hotel on the mall rd but do not miss Kalsang-Tibetan restaurant near Post office on the way to Kuri Bazaar from the mall rd.Great tasting Tibetan food(both veg and non veg),affordable prices, good quantity, lovely Tibetan music and an equally lively ambience with compliments/messages for the restaurant scrawled on tissue papers arranged on the glass top tables.Do try out their momo soup, fried momos in sauce and desserts which are yum.Avoid the street side atrocious tasting chaats and bun tikkis....a complete let down:-(

In all Mussoorie is a one time visit destination and one can see snow capped peaks from nov-mar when it will be will be very cold.Avoid visiting from may-mid oct.

Best Experience: Food at Kalsang,Snow capped mountain views when the clouds and mist lifted up,good cafes at Kulri bazaar where one can indulge in icecreams, home made chocolates and a variety of baked goodies.

Worst Experience: Ill maintained tourist spots like Kempty falls, small room at GMVN without balcony, seepage all over the hotel and bad room service as our room including the bathroom was not cleaned at all, only the bed was made and one extra towel was provided.
Hotel Honeymoon Inn opposite GMVN and Padmini Niwas on the left of GMVN will definetely be a better option as in off season i.e. nov-mar,you may get good discounts.
If you are not a budget traveller, you can opt for good star hotels and enjoy the comforts of a nice and clean room, great food and great views as now you know that you need not waste your time going to so called toursit attractions and how you can get the best of Mussoorie.

Hotel Review of GMVN Garhwal Terrace
Our group of 19 people (yes, 19 people ranging from aged 9 yrs to 40 yrs. !! :).. ) left Delhi for Mussoorie with booking available only for 6 Rooms at the GMVN hotel. We knew little of the place, and had no inkling where it was located,. The only clue was provided by the very helpful Delhi office of GMVN, who told us that the hotel is right on the Mall. Not much people had heard of the place...

Hotel Review of GMVN Garhwal Terrace
The overall experience was really overhauling, both in letter and spirit. The view of the Doon Valley from the parking spot behind Garhwal Terrace Hotel is very good on a clear evening. Location is an advantage as this property is equidistant from both the ends of the mall....

Hotel Review of GMVN Garhwal Terrace
The property is located right on The Mall, yet accessible by private vehicles, hence very convenient. The place has a great view of the Doon valley, probably the best in Mussoorie. The upkeep and catering can do with some improvements. Most recommended place to stay....
