Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum Overview

Ranked 7 of 146 sightseeing in Mysore

Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum is India’s first sand sculpture museum and is located in Mysore, close to the Chamundi Hills.

The museum is spread over an area of about 13,500 square feet and was created by M N Gowri, who has a Bachelor in Fine Arts and who wanted to show something unique to the tourists. You will be taken to another world where these magnificent pieces of art have been made with the use of only sand of water.

There are over 150 sculptures that are exhibited here. It is amazing how a temporary sand sculpture you make on beaches is made permanently to stay here at this museum. The most prominent themes visible are the heritage of Mysore, scenes from epic mythological stories, wildlife, and religions around the globe. A giant sculpture of Lord Ganesha welcomes you right at the entrance of the museum.

With an entry fee of just Rs. 40, this is a fine recommendation while you’re touring Mysore. It is most convenient to take a taxi from your accommodation at Mysore. You could also use the bus. The nearest railway station is the Mysore Railway Station, 5.6 km away.

Amazing Sand Work

The place has beautiful sand sculptures. But it is very short to be called as Museum. I wish there were more work added. It has a 3D selfie corner as well. Though we did not visit it. It has small activities for kids and some quick snacks. Some shops who sell handicrafts etc. are also there which have good collection but one need to bargain

Wonderful sand sculptures museum

I this museum on my way of trip in Mysore...though it was not in our plans... This attraction museum is near the Chamundi Hills which is having a number of sand sculptures around many themes such as ocean life, horror, wildlife, history etc...And the most surprised thing came to know after going there is ..ALL the sculptures were done by a very young female artist... Entry ticket is 40 per person. It will take not more than 15 mins to see the whole place. The sculptures are beautiful and intricate....There is no restroom or restaurant facility nearby...Sro I reccommend all the people to visit this wonderful sand sculptures museum........

Nice place of sand art

I like this sand museum for lovely art. The Chamundi art attracts most then Tipu Sultan in elephant ride is attractive. Also other arts are most attractive. Person going to watch this can't imagine how they are managing sand art is small place.

Astonishing sculpture

The sand sculptures were astonishing and very hard to believe that they were made by a girl so young. There were various sculptures showing the versatility of the creator of those sculptures.
