Nagarjunakonda Museum is situated in the island of Nagarjunakonda that is situated in the midst of the man-made Nagarjunasagar Lake. It is a Buddhist Museum that is known to have a wide collection of Buddhist structures and relics, which were excavated during the construction of the dam. The collection dates back to the 3rd century and can be reached by boat from Nagarjunasagar or Vijayapuri.
This boat service is primarily run by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department. Apart from this service, the museum can also be reached by road from the airport at Hyderabad. In this museum, visitors can also find Buddhist antiques, a stone image of Buddha, old inscriptions, panels carved with Jataka tales and so on. Tourists can also see hoes, spears and hammers dating back to the Stone Age in the museum. Information in the museum is mainly written in Hindi, Telugu and English for the benefit of the travellers.
