Nagarjunasagar Dam, considered to be the largest masonry dam in the world, has been constructed across Krishna River. This dam is situated in Nagarjunasagar, which comes under the Nalgonda District in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It was constructed between 1955 and 1967 and houses a big reservoir that has a storage capacity of about 11,472 million cubic metres.
Nagarjunasagar Dam is approximately 150 m tall and 16 km in length with 26 gates that measure 13 m in width and 14 m in height. The dam, which is considered to be one of the earliest multi-purpose hydro-electric and irrigation projects in the country, provides water to districts of Prakasam, Nalgonda, Guntur and Khammam.
