Nagin Lake is also called as the 'Jewel in the Ring', which is situated on the backdrop of the Dal Lake. There is a narrow causeway separating this Nagin Lake and the Dal Lake, where tourists can spot numerous houseboats and Shikaras. It is an isolated lake as compared to Dal Lake, which has less polluted and deep that is suitable for swimming.

Water skiing facilities and fibreglass sailing boats are also available at this lake. There is a Nagin Club situated on the banks of this lake, which has a tea pavilion and a bar. The ideal time for travelling to this lake is from June to August.

Lots of house boats rests in shore of this lake. As Dal lake is not permitted for house boats. One can ride Shikara(boat ride). We paid 500 per 2 person for 1 hour.

"A peaceful Lake"

I found the Nigeen lake very peaceful. There is also The Nigeen club where you can enjoy a cup of coffee.

There are gardens around also for sitting. Its best to go around sunset and take a shikara ride.

"A must visit place"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted May 7, 2016
Staying on an houseboat in Kashmir is a must do. And Nigeen lake is less crowded than the Dal lake.

Staying here is very peaceful.

If you stay on Nigeen lake, the views of the mountains are stunning and it's very peaceful and lovely. The sunset and sunrise were especially beautiful.

You must take a shikara ride to go around the lake in the evening and it is very very relaxing, however be warned of touts hassling you a bit though definitely less than the Dal lake.

If you are in Srinagar please make sure to stay in house boat. It is once in a lifetime experience and if you do, stay on Nigeen lake.

"Little sister of Dal Lake"

  • 5.0/7

Been to Nigeen Lake in the month of March. Very secluded. Not many tourists know about it. If you like calm and peaceful ambiance, you must visit this lake.

I stayed on a houseboat for a night with my family.

Lake surely need some serious cleaning, but it's still better than Dal Lake. Early morning shikara market is a must visit, especially for people from metropolitan. It's like a whole market on the small shikaras. Worth visiting.

"Dirty just like Dal lake"

We wanted to book a houseboat in this lake as we heard it was very neat. But to my horror it was just like Dal lake. It was unkempt, no works done to keep it clean.

"Nice quiet lake for Shikara"

Not as popular as Dal lake but a great lake to be in for a shikara. You will see lots of beautiful birds as a treat. There are some houseboats also in this place. However there are not commercialized as Dal lake. Its a must watch while exploring Kashmir and Srinagar.

"Romantically serene"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Jul 1, 2015
If Dal Lake is beautiful because it users excellent views, it is equally infested by hawkers, touts, guides, who kinda spoil the romantic feel and privacy that a couple would need but then there is Nagin Lake on the other side of Dal Lake which is very beautiful, less crowded, serene! Perfect for honeymooners. Has plenty of good houseboat options.

"Wonderful and calm place, fully crowded and busy"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted May 29, 2015
Compared to Dal lake this lake is very calm, Dal lake is fully crowded and busy, houseboats here are easily available and cheap compared to Dal lake. This lake is best for stay and Shikara ride is awesome, we can take a Shikara and go to Dal lake, it will take 4 hours for a full round and costing approximately Rs. 2000/- Must visit for all age groups when you are in Srinagar.
