Nakki Lake Overview

Ranked 2 of 36 sightseeing in Mount Abu

Nakki Lake is famous for its cool and calm atmosphere due to its ideal location in the backdrop of the Aravalli Mountains. It is the sole artificial lake in India, which is situated at a height of more than 1,200 m. Legend states that it has been carved out of rocks by Gods with the use of their nails. It is also a suitable location for enjoying boating and rock climbing, while on a trip to Mount Abu.

The lake is situated beside Shri Raghunathji Temple, Toad Rock and the Maharaja Jaipur Palace in Mount Abu. Sunset Point is also very close to Nakki Lake, which is frequented by bandits. On 12th February 1948, Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were immersed in Nakki Lake and Gandhi Ghat was built alongside it.

Boating around sunset - Awesome

Beautiful lake but the surrounding area is not very clean, which will reduce your excitement.Anyway, enjoy the boating in evening. Do not forget to wear life jacket while boating. View from boat is very good, cool breeze will multiply your enjoyment. If you are fond of zorbing then you will get that opportunity here.

Boring and waste of time

I went to see Nakki lake on 25 Feb, but to my horror, I was told that boating wasn't allowed since last 1month as the contract had expired and required renewal. So, we were at a lake where we could not do anything in the water. Moreover, lake bank was dirty and it was very crowded. It was all made worse by the innumerable no of photographers who just jump on you to convince you to get a picture clicked in traditional Rajasthani dress. We did try it, ultimately, as we had little other things to do, but the experience was not good. Also, it wasn't worth the money as he charged 60 rupees for 1 photograph, and if u need digital pics in same dress from yr own mobile also, then they charge you another 100 rupees. About food at Nakki lake, I think there were options for vegetarians, but, there is no Bar cum restaurant at the spot, also , Non-vegetarian food restaurant is hardly seen. So, those who like to have Chicken tikka with some beer will have to go far from the lake point. Market near Nakki lake is below average as there is nothing unique being offered. Same imitation jewellery, woollen clothes shops which you find in any other hill station. Washroom facility is also quite far off from Nakki lake. that too Sulabh facility. No government managed facility. Overall, I feel Nakki lake spot is highly overrated and it's overcrowded and mismanaged.

Serene, beautiful

It is a beautiful lake surrounded by hills on one side and a market on the other. You can roam about, go in for boating, or just enjoy the breeze. It gets quite breezy and cold after sunset, so dress accordingly.

Nakki Lake

This lake is said to dug by the nails in one night. The lake is very big and it freezes in thw winters. The snow frozen lake is quite a good thing tp view mostly in December and January. There are temple and lakes here to see. Also there is sunset point and national park to enjoy and adventure.
