Nalhateshwari Temple is another pilgrim spot offered by Tarapith, which is located in its vicinity at Nalhati.
The name of the place Nalhati is related to the Daksha Yaga and the subsequent sacrifice of life of Goddess Sati. Lord Shiva, when learnt about the incident, started Thandava Nrutya in anger, to destroy the Universe. Lord Vishnu, to prevent the destruction of universe, sliced the body of Goddess Sati to 51 pieces using his Chakra-ayudha and placed them at different parts in earth and erected temples at these places. The place where the throat of Goddess Sati was placed came to be called as ‘Nalhati’ (Nala – throat).
Nalhateshwari Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, is a major Sakthi Pitha visited by pilgrims throughout the year.
