Nandi Hills is located at an altitude of 4,851-feet above sea level. Locally known as Nandi Betta, the destination features forts, lakes, river and mountains. It was known as Ananda Giri, meaning, 'The Hill of Happiness', during the reign of Cholas. As per historians, the hill station is named after Yogi Nandeeshwara.
Among other nearby attractions is the Amruth Sarovar, which is a beautiful lake nestled in the hills. Tipu’s Summer Palace and Fort sprawling over 90 acres is also located close to this attraction. One of the most frequented landmarks of the hill station is the Tipu’s Drop, a spot where criminals were pushed by throwing them down from here.
Located in Chikkaballapur (Kolar District), the hill destination is among popular picnic spots around Bangalore. Visitors can reach the hilltop by climbing the 1,175 steps.
