About Nani Daman (Offbeat Attraction)

Nani Daman is a popular tourist attraction, which is situated close to the Gandhi Park and the Nani Daman Jetty. This region comprises a Nani Daman Fort, several churches built in the Gothic style and a lighthouse.

The Nani Daman Fort is spread over an area of about 12,250 sq. m. This fort is also popularly called as the St. Jerome Fort, after the name of the eminent father of the Catholic Church.

There is a gateway at this fort which faces the river, which is also overlooked by a statue of St. Jerome. There is a fish market below the fort nearby which, neatly anchored fishing boats can be seen.

This fort has over 3 bastions and 2 gateways that lead to the nearby Church of Our Lady of the Sea and the Lady of Remedios Church.  An old cemetery is located just next to these churches.

A lighthouse is situated in Nani Daman, which provides a beautiful view of sunset and the Daman Ganga River Bridge. Tourists can also visit the old Jain Temple located within Nani Daman, which features 18th century glass murals and paintings.

"history of daman":-
During the beginning of this millennium, the region in and around Daman was ruled by the Kushana Emperor. From the 8th to 13th century, Daman and Diu, which was a part of Goa was a stronghold of the Chowda Rajputs who were banished by the Waghalas who in turn were expelled by Muslims in 1330. History of Daman is quite fascinating for every historian across the world.

"Nothing much to do"

  • 2.5/7

Nani Daman is basically the city. There is nothing much to do. Just a lot of liquor shops. The best place to get liquor if you want to. Also don't go there expecting to shop as there is nothing there.

"Too much humid and nothing good about this place"

  • 1.5/7
  • Posted Jun 6, 2016
My whole visit was screwed firstly due to the humidity and then because of the local people over there. The localities there are not at all cooperative and the place also is not worth visiting. The only thing people visit Daman is because of the drinking facility available there. DO NOT VISIT place.

"Street shopper's and Food Lover's Paradise"

  • 5.5/7

The new city, or, residential part of the city is called Nani Daman. (Nano means small in Gujarati, hence the name). It is a beautiful, well planned and quiet city. The local Dubai Market has everything you can possibly need, at a reasonable price. Nani Daman is also known for the amazing food joints and super cheap alcohol. Do not forget to visit the Nani Daman Fort.

"Not maintained at all"

  • 2.5/7
  • Posted Jul 9, 2014
This place is not maintained at all. We stayed in this part of Daman. This is the market area. The goods here are not cheap except for alcohol. The devka beach area is a better place to hangout at night.
