National War Museum was built by Express Citizen’s Forum, an organisation of Pune citizens. After the stone laying foundation held in November 1977, the museum was opened in October 1998. Situated at Pune Cantonment, an area reserved for armed forces, the museum is made of pillars and measures 25 ft in height.
Its construction done by collecting funds from the citizens of the country made it the only war memorial in South Asia to be built by raising funds from the public. On display in the museum is a MIG 23 BN that was used in the Kargil War.
