"A silent journey"

The Nilgiri mountain train journey is really an interesting & enjoyable trip. The small train running in the mountain tops & viewing the beauty of the nilgiri hills is very attractive. It takes one hour journey from Ooty to Coonoor on mountain train. Those who are visiting Ooty must conduct this mountain tour with kids.

"The scenic and breath taking beauty takes you to the past"

Get down at Mettupalayam Railway station in Tamilnadu, on the Broad Gauge Platform and slowly walk across on to another platform to get a completely different look of Indian railways. You would move back into the time by at least 40 years. You would suddenly hear a old steam engine whistle, if you don't believe, watch it with your eyes, an old age steam engine chugs out of its shed to pull three coaches up the majestic Nilgiri hills all the way to Ooty. On a 5 hour long journey at the slowest speed possible and ensure you would spend the time out capturing the whole beauty of the majestic Nilgiri mountains and its valley. If you have kids they will keep themselves busy peeping out of the windows, watching the steam engine, take the twists and turns through the curves of the mountain. Keep your breath intact even though the sceneries are breathtaking, because you might encounter elephants standing on the railway if you are lucky enough. Your train would wait patiently for the elephants to move out because the elephants have the right of way. You would pass through several bridges hearing the sound of gentle streams flowing under them. Several small rivulets and waterfalls, birds and bushes, trees and mountains, cloud and rain, rainbows and colors all in one place with one train journey. Believe me its one train journey that you would not want to miss in your life time. Train passes through difficult terrain, under the cut rocks and steep gradients. Before you reach Coonoor, you would get the glimpses of the Nilgiri Tea Gardens and they would never far from there. The Ooty station itself is in the heart of the city and will give you warm feeling of travelling through one of the most beautiful railways in the world.

"It's worth to have a trip of Nilgiri mountain rail"

When you are planning to visit Coonoor from Ooty, don't miss the opportunity to travel through Nilgiri mountain rail. There are two timing of the train, one in the morning 9:15 and second in the afternoon. You can book your ticket through online. It is a nice view of mountain and villages through mountain rail if you get an opportunity to sit on the right side window.

"Dont miss this experience"

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is seriously breathtaking. The route is from Ooty to Coonoor. In the way there are many tunnels and picturesque scenes. The police officers in the railway station are very helpful and strictly take care of the rules. The system of the station is very good and systematic.

"Not not miss"

A must go activity, the tickets for this rides are always sold out. Advance booking for this is full for 3-3 months in advance of journey. Get ready to spend 3-5 hours in queue to get the ticket or get the tickets arranged by hook-or-crook. The journey is really pleasing, go and experience the beauty 1st hand.

"Must travel once in life time"

  • 7.00/7
  • Posted Nov 19, 2014
The train is a classical one which runs on a Narrow Guage. The nearly Five hour ride is a treat with its amazing view.
The train runs very slow and passes through number of bridges and tunnels. It was a breath-taking experience.
Avoid direct booking's during peak seasons. Book in advance to enjoy a memorable experience.

"Railway ride"

  • 5.00/7
  • Posted Nov 15, 2014
Good experience. But the downside is the procuring of tickets at the station. Book your tickets at least 1 day in advance and I think the rail ride will be a real experience. Especially the scenic beauty, the blue hills, tea gardens, etc. We only went up to Coonoor station and then caught the train back. Carry some things to eat on the way please.

"Historical Joyride"

This is a steam engine ride that takes you through some incredible forests with breathtaking views you will never forget. The scenes are just so varied that you will want to take this ride again. The time factor is important here, its slow so you need to know your limitations if any.
