Nimishamba Temple is located on the road leading to Sangam on the banks of the River Cauvery. Presiding deity of the temple is Sri Nimishamba, who is considered as the incarnation of Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. On a stone in front of Goddess, shrichakra is carved. Named Moukthikeshwara, a deity of Lord Shiva is also located within the temple.
Built during the time of the Wodeyar Rule, by Mummadi Krishnaraja Odeyar about 300 to 400 years ago, the temple has many beautiful carvings on its tower. The temple also contains idols of Ganesha, Hanuman and the cement structure of goddess Lakshmi and Sarawati. Muktharaja, a king inscribed the ‘Sri Chakra’ at the temple before going into penance. Every Poornima and Nimishamba jayanthi, special poojas are organised at the temple.
