About Nizam Sagar Dam

Nizam Sagar Dam is a reservoir constructed across Manjira River, a tributary of River Godavari, in the Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh. This reservoir is the main water source of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Constructed by Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan in the year 1923 by evacuating around 40 villages, this dam is one of the biggest in the world.
Though constructed solely for irrigation purposes, the dam also acts as a 3 km long connecting bridge as it has a 14 feet wide road built across it connecting the nearby villages. The adjacent Nizam Sagar Lake adds beauty to this place attracting a lot of tourists. Kids can enjoy a fun day of boating here. A beautiful garden is maintained adjacent to the Nizam Sagar Dam and serves as a favorite picnic spot for the whole family.
The best time to visit the dam is during the monsoon season when the dam is full and barrage is fully open.
The other places near Nizam Sagar Dam that are worth visiting are Pocharam Dam Reservoir and Singur Dam Reservoir.
Nizam Sagar Dam is accessible by road and lies at a distance of only 140 km from Hyderabad.
