I have stayed at this hotel on two occasions, both business trips of short duration. From personal experience, I can vouch that for the short duration business traveller, who would be short of time to catch up with other than his / her business activities, maybe shopping (especially on the cusp of Durga Puja festivities). The nightlife at Park Street close by, or simply an early morning jog around the greens of Esplanade, this is the most convenient and comfortable place to stopover. The hotel is actually an oasis, within the bustling madness of New Market / Esplanade. For a probashi Bengali like me, everything of interest was a short walk away, including an outlet of KC Das, to indulge my sweet tooth. The hotel has a lovely old world charm, reinforced by a lot of dark wood panelling, the lobby, the corridors, the room, even the elevators, and the toilet seat cover too. The room was particularly comfortable, though a tad large for a single traveller, but I am certainly not complaining at being indulged. The pool is quite decently sized, given the location, and a good place to lounge about (which I hope to do on my next trip). But use the pool I did, for a good workout after an outing in the humidity of a balmy September evening. The restaurant has a good spread, with trademark Bengali dishes / delicacies. However, the live counter service could try and expedite serving out the orders, especially at breakfast. Would have loved some live music accompaniment, though I am told that live music is played in the Chowringhee Bar on certain days. Staff is extremely courteous, and eager to assist even if on the move, or not directly concerned with you. Must admit my embarrassment at having a lady staff member holding the entrance door to the hotel's main lobby open for me, but I guess that would represent the grand hallmark of class - a signature trademark of Oberoi's. Overall, a classy place, old worldly, but contemporary enough to meet all conceivable needs of the modern business traveller, especially on short trips to the city. Looking forward to stay there again.
The Oberoi Grand is a hotel celebrating British heritage. This building still maintains it's rich and varied architectural styles and reflects appearance of what was once the capital of the British empire in India . . The staff are extremely helpful and courteous. The pool side has a nice outdoor eatery which was wonderful to sit during the less warm days Food:. The food is of excellent quality and as a Bengali food lover I can vouch that it tastes exactly like authentic Bengali food. The menu is extensive and the breakfast buffet was so mouth watering that even I, a late riser rose to much on their delicacies. Rooms:. The rooms are maintained neat and clean. I would suggest you book rooms overlooking the garden with a balcony. It's beautiful to view the landscape and pool. The Interiors are of antique appearance and they have kept the Victorian look to keep up the presence of the era it was built in Situated in a primes spot and next to the famous shopping spot new market, Oberoi Grand, The is a perfect getaway for both luxury and recuperation.

In the midst of Calcutta, hotel located in colonial style. We were contacted by the hotel in advance already, whether we want to be picked-up from the airport, happy! Mint quiet rooms. Like an oasis amongst the loud Calcutta. A very friendly and unobtrusive service in any area. Wonderful restaurants and very good breakfast. The pool is a delightful courtyard. The sauna is also acceptable to measure but certainly not perfect with European scale. Very clean and excellent price - performance ratio. Thanks for the good time!
If you want real luxury and nice hospitality stay in Oberoi grand esplanade area Kolkata. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained in great location. The services were very sincere and professional. The rooms are amazingly better. Every attendant at this hotel was friendly, helpful and eager to make my stay comfortable.
