We were at Old Magazine House Forest Camp for 2 days. Main motto was birding and bird photography. It is truly a great place. Wonderful Hospitality. They have Cottage and Dormitory. All meals are included in your room rent. Rooms are simple but clean and tidy. The staff is very polite and helpful. This place is paradise for bird watching. We enjoyed birding for 2 days. I could manage to click around 50+ species of the birds excluding the common birds. The resort naturalist guided us in spotting the birds all the time and gave useful information about the birds. For evening time, they took us at water pumping station where we spot more than 40+ hornbill birds. Old Magazine House Forest Camp serves tasty food. It includes veg and non veg meal. Best part is when you are busy with bird photography within resort area, they constantly serve tea and coffee to refresh your mind. Evening camp fire is the best place to meet up with other tourist and exchange knowledge on birds and photography skills. I simply loved this place ad will visit again for sure.
Our team of 25 people from Hyderabad went to Old Magazine which we booked through Jungle Lodges..the booking process was easy and the call center people were very helping and offered us corporate discount also. After booking I got in touch with the manager and he arranged for a pick-up from Hubli. The lodge is located inside the and away from the main road...between trees as if its in core jungle....In the evening we went trekking and got a hilltop view of the Dam and Dandeli area..guys you will love the trek through jungle ..... The next day we moved for rafting and the event organizing team (few foreigners as well) are very good and allowed us to enjoy us water and parallely took care of safety as well..they looked very professional...though the rapids are 3-4 less than the Coorg rafting point...you will love the rafting through the jungle..... The food and accommodation at the lodge is neat and clean....very peaceful location and you can spot many birds in the evening....give a good work out for your SLR camera ;) The place is worth spending 2nights 3days
I along with a group visited the OMH camp for bird watching and that was our sole purpose of exploring bird life in the W.Ghats. Some of us chose to stay in the dormitory and some in the cottages and overall the comfort level was good as it has always been. Power outage is an issue and you cant complain much about it being in a remote place. Staff are helpful and always on call and are very courteous. Visit this place if you want a break from the hectic life spending quality time doing nothing amidst the frenzy calling/singing of birds and chatting over the campfire and slurping the hot delicious food. Don't visit if you are looking for a high end luxury resort equipped with all modern facilities. Remember, this is an offbeat location and not a luxurious resort and you won't have many facilities that other resorts offer. Activities are limited and the schedules can go haywire if rains interrupt. If you are interested in bird watching or wildlife photography, this is the place to be. Sit, relax and enjoy the show unfurl.
the Whole Experience was amazing, had a good trip, when we reached the resort the staff welcomed us with the name, the food was great , the rooms were clean, service excellant, the resort location is beautiful,Feel so relax being there no disturbance no work tensions just chill out, one connects with the innerself being at this place ,had a 2day plan but wished to extend the plan. had fun with the coracle ride, trekking- the view is amazing from the hill only disappointment was i didnt get to do river rafting which was the objective to visit the place but still we cherish the moment spent in the resort
Old Magazine House is an awesome place to visit. If you want to be with nature, have a restful time and get disconnected with all hustle-bustle, this is the place you should go. OMH is perfect in every way - They have the best service, helpful staff, natural ambiance, neatness and most of all Yummy food in the midst of forest. Now talking about our stay, we wanted to do river rafting and hence planned to visit Dandeli and selected OMH after reading about it. They have 2 options for stay - Dormitory and Cottages. We were a huge group of friends and hence Dormitory that has capacity of 16+ adults was a perfect fit. We rented a car to reach to Ganeshgudi - OMH and were welcomed very well and we were amazed with cleanliness of rooms and washrooms. It is very safe for girls/ladies if you are concerned about the safety. Unluckily water rafting never happened during our stay and there are very little options to do apart from relaxing. They have a famous spot for nature lovers and bird photographers, where a lot of exotic birds stop by and give us a pleasant view. Must go!!!! Don't forget your DSLR
