Osman Sagar Lake Overview

Ranked 42 of 410 sightseeing in Hyderabad

A short half hour drive out of Hyderabad brings you to the popular tourist destination of Osman Sagar Lake. More popularly known as Gandipet, the 46 sq. km artificial lake has attracted revelers to it since the Nizam’s time.

Feel the cool breeze against your face as you stand on the embankment and sip a hot cup of tea. Vendors do brisk business selling small snacks. Yummy delicacies are available at a small cafeteria.

The embankment is bordered by landscaped parks and lawns on all sides and makes for a great picnic spot. You will often see picnickers lounging around, atop brightly colored durries, eating out of large picnic hampers or playing cards.

A princely summer retreat house called Sagar Mahal, overlooks the lake and affords a spectacular view of the lake. This heritage building has been converted into a comfortable Resort by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department. The cozy cottages here make for a very pleasant weekend getaway with family or friends.

The lake and its reservoir are a beautiful sight to behold when the Indian monsoons are in full swing.

Good place to spend time and relax

Went there many times with friends early mornings on weekends. This time it was wit family. The water is abundant here and the rocks below the bridge make the scene more beautiful. We have a park beside this where the kids and family played, ate and enjoyed. At the other end of the bund, we can get down on the opposite side than the water. Its much greenery there with really small pond of clean water. But dont know if its allowed to get down there. If you are wit friends, nice place to hang over with them and also to explore around:) Just dont get near the water :)

Lovely at Sunrise

I went for a road trip to Osman Sagar and it was amazing. We left early in the morning at about 5.30am in order to not miss the sunrise. The ringroad is fabulous and we got there in 12 minutes. The place is beautiful at sunrise. We sat on the rocks beside the Dam and just let the Sun sink into us, by the lake on our side. It was a pleasant sight I must say.

Good place to pass time, could have been better

The place is very good with beautiful scenes and water. The best time to go there is sunset. If you get there on time, be ready to witness the view of hyderabad and nature. The only con is that there is no way to reach near the water, so you have to look it from the roadside only.

Lake is a stinking one

Visited Hussain Sagar lake in Lumbini Gardens. There is a large crowd for the boating visit. There 3 types of boat visits into Hussain Sagar lake. One is Motorspeed boat, another is a small boat which can accommodate 6,7 people. Another is a big boat which can accommodate 30 to 40 people. It gets us to middle of the lake where a Budha statue is erected. The boating is good, if the water is clean, the boating would have been excellent. We surprise why the AP govt. would not take steps to clean when they earn so much out of tourism?
