Old Magazine House Forest Camp Reviews

Our team of 25 people from Hyderabad went to Old Magazine which we booked through Jungle Lodges..the booking process was easy and the call center people were very helping and offered us corporate discount also. After booking I got in touch with the manager and he arranged for a pick-up from Hubli. The lodge is located inside the and away from the main road...between trees as if its in core jungle....In the evening we went trekking and got a hilltop view of the Dam and Dandeli area..guys you will love the trek through jungle ..... The next day we moved for rafting and the event organizing team (few foreigners as well) are very good and allowed us to enjoy us water and parallely took care of safety as well..they looked very professional...though the rapids are 3-4 less than the Coorg rafting point...you will love the rafting through the jungle..... The food and accommodation at the lodge is neat and clean....very peaceful location and you can spot many birds in the evening....give a good work out for your SLR camera ;) The place is worth spending 2nights 3days

the Whole Experience was amazing, had a good trip, when we reached the resort the staff welcomed us with the name, the food was great , the rooms were clean, service excellant, the resort location is beautiful,Feel so relax being there no disturbance no work tensions just chill out, one connects with the innerself being at this place ,had a 2day plan but wished to extend the plan. had fun with the coracle ride, trekking- the view is amazing from the hill only disappointment was i didnt get to do river rafting which was the objective to visit the place but still we cherish the moment spent in the resort

Worth every paise staying for 1 day and going for the white water rafting. Ideal calm serene place, wonderful experience to see the nature. The stay was as if you were in the cuddle of it. Basically I had booked for 2 persons at Old Magazine house, the tariff was 1500x2persons, i.e 3000. We had booked from an agent. Had we booked directly we could have got more services. The old Magazine House manager (Mahesh or Mohan, not sure) was very good, a kannadiga soft spoken and warm. We travelled from Bangalore. We listened to the advice of the agent and made the mistake of taking Direct KSRTC rajahamsa bus to Dandeli. Infact had booked both return tickets by KSRTC Rajahamsa. My wife had the horrible experience of getting bit by mosquitoes and bugs. The screens were not washed and as a result lot of mosquitoes had made its home. Reached Dandeli in the early morning, and the first job to do was to cancel the return reservation. There was one KSRTC booking counter which was closed, when KSRTC people were contacted we were told that the counter opens at 10 am. Also since the check in time was 12 noon, we decided to explore Dandeli. It is a small town, dont find big buildings. Only paper mills and agriculture seems to be the bussiness and earning for people here. We took a auto rickshaw to see a place called Maulangi, He charged 150 for to and fro and waiting time for 3hrs. The ride was bumpy and the rickshaw was a not a good one. However the rickshawala was a nice guy, a teenager who had taken a second hand auto and running his own business. The place was good but there was no crowd as it was saturday early morning. So it was like pretty much inside like forest. We could see Malabar Squirrel there and other few birds. Around noon we reached the resort. We had to catch a local ksrtc at 11 am and reached ganesh gudi horn bill resort bus stop at 11.30. Had to walk inside the forest for 3kms. We took a risk walking inside the jungle. Would advise next time to take a cab from dandeli. After checking in had lunch and went for white water rafting. This was not part of the package, was around 1300. But worth every paise, After reaching the river, there were other people who had come for white water rafting, We joined them and two seperate teams were formed. We rafted in the water for about an hour, for 11kms. The guide taught us how to raft and we took swim in the river. After that we reached the resort back and took some rest. The dinner was good and twice there was powercuts. The hotel had the generator so there was no problem at night. During powercut one could listen to the absolute silence and sounds of animals. Next day morning we went for a nature walk to see a beatuful view from the top of hill around 7. It was good. We checked out after having breakfast. Breakfast was good, with lot of options. After reaching the bus stop we tried again cancelling the KSRTC return ticket but came to know that there is no online reservation or cancellation. We booked a VRL volvo from Dharwad and took a cab to Dharwad. Retrun trip from Dharwad by VRL was good and pleasant. They give good service.
