"Overall experience: The resort scores..."

  • Posted May 24, 2010
Overall experience: The resort scores only because of the scenic beauty. We were two families each with a two year old toddler. The map they provided to reach the resort was quite misleading. When we thought we were lost we called the resort only to hear \'please follow the road\'. Somehow we reached where we were supposed to. The bumpy ride to the resort in the army truck was fun - especially for the kids. The view of the valley was breathtaking with the resort blending well with it. We checked into our rooms and headed straight to the restaurant since the kids were cranky and hungry. We were quite shocked to see that there is no kid friendly menu. We requested the staff if they could make phulkas and the answer was no since they were about to close. We somehow ordered something which was not that great but could just fill our stomachs. In the evening we went to the restaurant at 7:20 since the kids were hungry again. We were told the restaurant opens at 7:30 and nothing - not even the sight of crying kids could change their mind. We again asked for phulkas since tandoori rotis are hard to chew for these toddlers. The answer was - we have no tava and so we cannot make phulkas. The rice they serve is fit enough for adults but not for kids who have no teeth. They somehow agreed to make pongal after 10 mins of discussion and after we went to the front office and complained - they somehow made a chapati. But by the time they served us the kids had cried themselves to sleep. We then ordered milk which was quite diluted. I was hoping we would get fresh good milk from their own farm. I realised that the milk was spoiled only when my son threw up after drinking it in the midnight when he woke up for his night feed. The first day was quite a nightmare. Second day began well with horse riding. Kids really enjoyed it. The breakfast was good. we finally got our kids to eat something. The farm animals are quite a thing with these kids. The day had the farm animals as the highlight. The evening barbeque was yummy followed by the fight to feed our kids with the unchewable food. The rooms were neat and clean... we could have done good with a single large bed ( we with a toddler in between) instead of two single beds but we didnt complain about it. The housekeeping staff came for room cleaning and we left for our little outing. When we came back around one and half hours later the room was still in the same shape. We had to call the housekeeping and complain to get it cleaned. The resort might have to learn a thing or two about hospitality. The service is lethargic so make sure you order food very well in advance ( I had to wait for 15 full minutes for a glass of milk at the restuarant and again my kid had cried himself to sleep). Families with small kids be wary and stock yourselves with food they are comfortable with. There is no laundry service so carry enough clothes. I requested for a hair dryer to dry my son\'s sweater for which the answer was - Sir, I just delivered the hair dryer to one of the rooms located far away. I will see if I get anything in this building. Ofcouse we never heard from her again. We had airtel connection and we had to walk 200meters to get the range - maybe a break from the nuisance for some. They do not have a \'No individual tipping policy\' which most of the resorts follow nowdays ( they have these big boxes for collective tips) Ok - Let me write something that we all loved hands down - Strawberry juice. Heavenly... dont even think of missing it.

"I booked a 3 day..."

  • Posted Apr 19, 2010
I booked a 3 day holiday for my family over email. The replies were prompt, transactions were smooth and I got a map of the resort, as it is about 30 km away from Ooty town. On reaching there, we were told the vehicles stayed at the parking lot and the last 2km trip was made in an army one-tonner. The trip was an adventure in itself. Once we reached the place, there was a warm welcome & great service started right then, and stayed that way through the stay. The decor of the place is very nice, the rooms comfortable, the views spectacular. There is a lake just outside the resort\'s boundaries and is beautiful to look at. The resort is very close to the forest area but well-fenced and safe. The resort has a western theme that turns up in the labelling of different areas, names of rooms (like Billy the Kid, Buffalo Bill, Alain Quartermain etc. - the King\'s Cliff touch continues here) The food was absolutely brilliant & the very civil staff is always checking to make sure the dining experience is great!! The supper area has a colonial aura to it and it makes for cozy dinner experiences. The staff is courteous to the extreme and it looks like they have customer service drilled into their heads afresh every morning. Particular mention for the very capable Anand, who manages operations with an unruffled and calm demeanour. The place is completely cut off from Ooty town and therefore not at all touristy. Most of the area did not support mobile phone coverage (at least, not my service provider, though BSNL had coverage) and that was a good thing. I got to relax the good old fashioned way without hearing the phone ring!

Best Experience: The staff took care & delivered a few things we had left in the car at the parking lot 2 kms away. We had asked for a birthday cake for my mother\'s 60th - and it was a fabolous cake, as good as any i would have found if I had stayed home. Every meal was an assault on the senses. The dal makhani was highly recommended by the executive chef and it didnt disappoint. The chinese/ thai food was beautifully flavoured and delicious, the desserts were completely out of this world, particularly the Destiny\'s special secret recipe white chocolate brownie. There are activities one can do while there - the horseriding trail was very nicely located. You can go on treks, valley crossing, rappelling etc. We tried the valley crossing, which was undertaken safely and was great fun.

Worst Experience: The horseriding track was at a high point and one got fabulous views. The only downside was, people were not allowed to independently ride the horses and a handler had to walk with the riders, making it safe but boring. Also, the horses seemed in bad shape, the handlers didnt seem to have too much of a care for the horses and as a horseriding enthusiast, i felt that was the only shortcoming at this fabulous place.

"In one word AWESOME!!!Didn\'t know..."

In one word AWESOME!!!Didn\'t know that such places still existed...Scenic,restful,great place to unwind from the daily rat race.A special mention about Ramesh who made us feel totally at home.It is great to know that there are still some parts of India that are so scenic and unspoilt. They have tried to create a harmony with nature which is so great to see in the present day concrete jungles. The roads are rustic and uneven but adds to the total charm of the place. We hope the place will remain as rustic and as untouched as it is now.

Best Experience: The bonfire was superb. The valley crossing was stomach tingling!!!The views from the room are to die for.

"Overall experience was bad.No sign..."

  • Posted May 31, 2009
Overall experience was bad.No sign boards to destination.U have to keep calling their resvn office every time.Bathrooms were stinking.Housekeeping cud not help us on this.We were a couple and there were two single cots in the room.Normally mother-in-laws separate the couple, here the resort took charge of it.No privacy-there was a group sitting on the corridor and having drinks n shouting till late nite.Food was good but always delayed.Front office was the worst.

Best Experience: when we left the resort.Felt like out of a prison.........

Worst Experience: When we wanted to check out early, the front office did not allow us.Then we had to call the reservation office for help.Worst part was the front office lady was discussing one customer\'s problem with another in the former\'s absence.Totally unprofessional.Inspite of me sending a mail to the management ,all the reply i got was,\' we will definitely look into it\'.

"Superb place.. I was little..."

Superb place.. I was little scared initially since it was never heard of place.. last st retch of journey was very exciting.. reaching his place is little difficult.. and definitely feel some sign board would help people reaching there. It was the best time of the year I guess... there wasn\'t much rain and was free for all outdoor activities.

Best Experience: Food was good.. though they seems to have less support staff. Room service is definitely not great.

Worst Experience: I wish I could have got bed tea. :(
