A narrow stretch of beach with Tall Shuru
trees, tiny islands, clusters of hamlets and colorful sail boats dotting
crystal clear waters ? that's what you see when you get to this beautiful
tourist destination. This is the quintessence of Tarkarli.
The Tarkarli village is located 6 km away
from Malvan. Situated at the confluence of the Karli
River and the Arabian
Sea at Devbag, it is an ideal getaway for tourists, wishing to
escape the rigors of urban life.
The crystal clear waters here are ideal for
snorkeling. On a sunny day, you can see the seabed up to a depth of 20 feet.
For adventure seekers, there are good facilities for water sports at the beach.
Try your hand at boating, snorkeling or
scuba diving under the expert guidance of well-trained snorkeling guides. Hire
one of the well-appointed houseboats and take a leisurely cruise around the
waters. Good accommodation is also available for weekend getaways. While you
are here, you should sample some of the local Malvani fare.
One of the great symbols of Maharashtra's rich historical past is the mighty
Sindhudurg fort.
Shivaji wanted to build an
impregnable island fort, at a considerable distance from the unconquerable
Janjira fort and thus selected the rocky island of Kurute. The Padmagarh Fort was set up to strengthen
the outer defenses of Sindhudurg. The Padmagarh Fort was also reportedly the main
shipbuilding base of Shivaji's navy.
The ruined fort of Padmagarh now stands
about a quarter of a mile from the shore and almost gets connected to it at low
tide by the narrow neck of sand. |
