About Palakkad

Palakkad town, initially known as Palghat, is situated near the town of Malampuzha in the Palakkad District. The town is famous for its Jain temple situated near the railway station of the Palakkad town. The region around the temple is known as Jainimedu. It is divided into four sections and has images of Jain Tirthankaras and Yakshinis.

Palakkad Fort is located in the middle of the Palakkad town and is made of granite. It is considered among the best preserved forts of the state. The fort was constructed in 1766 by Hyder Ali of Mysore. In 1790, the fort came under the control of British, who modified the structure. At present, the Archaeological Survey of India looks after the upkeep of the fort.

The Dhoni Waterfalls is another popular attraction of the Palakkad Town and is situated in the Western Ghats. A temple can be seen near the mountain valley, which is believed to be dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Karnaki temple is dedicated to Goddess Kannaki. Another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated within the same complex.
