Panaji, the capital city of Goa, was earlier called as Panjim. It is located on the banks of the Mandovi River and is spread across an area of about 36 sq. km. Tourists can visit many gardens, statues and beaches in Panaji. It is also the main educational, cultural and commercial centre of Goa.
Some of the important tourist attractions of this city are the Jama Masjid, Menezes Braganza Institute, St. Sebastian Chapel and San Thome Quarter. The popular beaches nearby Panaji are the Dona Paula, Miramar and Bambolim.
