Pathiramannal is a small island, located in the Lake Vembanad near Alleppey. The place sprawls over an area of 10 acre island on the backwaters. The place is home to several rare varieties of migratory birds which are from different parts of the world.
Tourists visiting the place can spot birds like golden-backed woodpeckers, night herons, egrets, bulbuls and shrikes. Kingfishers, paradise fly-catchers, morning doves, crow pheasants and drongos are some of the other species of birds that travellers can spot here.
According to mythology, it is believed that a young Brahmin dived into the Lake Vembanad so as to perform his evening ablutions. When this happened, the water made its way for land to rise from below. The land which was raised from below is now known as Pathiramannal.
Surrounded by the Vembanad Lake, the place extends from Alappuzha to Kochi. This attraction is only accessible by boat. The island is located between Thanneermukkom and Kumarakom.
