I planned my Srinagar honeymoon tour with Kites Tours and Travels and purposefully asked for Peacock Houseboats in Nageen Lake as it was referred to me by my friend. Nageen lake is known to be a silent lake as compared to Dale Lake which has more crowd. The Shikara ride, Honeymoon cake and Candle light dinner was included in the package for Peacock Houseboats. The time we took Shikara ride we were the only one in the lake. What else would you need on your first day at Honeymoon. After landing in Srinagar at around 10 AM we decided first to go to Houseboat and get fresh and then move out for sightseeing. We called up Houseboat and asked if we can come now as the booking starts from 12. They seemed to be very nice and helpful on the phone which got more concrete when we actually reached. One needs to take a Shikara to reach to the houseboat. As soon as we reached we were served with hot tea and snacks as it was very cold. We stayed for close to an hour and then when outside for sightseeing. We returned at around 5 and then we had our Shikara ride, pleasant, calm and comfortable. The Shikara person offered us the phirni (jar like thing containing hot coal to give heat). It was good Shikara ride in a silent and calm lake. Then we proceeded to Houseboat at around 6:30PM and ordered a Kashmiri KAWA (as suggested by our driver). They offered KAWA free of cost which was very good and hot enough. One won't feel cold for few hours after one cup of Kawa. At around 8 PM our Candle light dinner was ready. It was a great feeling to see a good setup of candles and aroma. It made more special after tasting the food. Awesome! Overall a very good experience whether it be hospitality, room, service or food.
The overall, it was great ambience. Hotel people arranged transportation facility for 10 days. The hotel is situated in good location. The outside appearance of the hotel is very neat and beautiful. Staff and their service were good and they were very friendly and helpful. Front office service was good. Room was comfortable, spacious, neat and clean. They have their own food court inside the hotel. Nice vegetarian food was served. Food was very good in terms of quality. No indoor games and any other activities. Check-in and check-out procedure was on time. Recommendable to other travellers.
Anchored in the serene banks of Nagin Lake, this group of houseboats is a very good option to the ones available on the crowded yet more beautiful Dale Lake Our arrival was made special by a warm welcome by Mr. Bashir who owns the houseboat and were served the Kashmiri special Kahwa tea. He then helped us negotiate with the pursuant Shikara and we returned to the houseboat with a well spent evening ride on the Shikara to home cooked dinner served on board The walls and rooms are decorated giving you a royal feel and the ambience is very special especially if it is your first houseboat experience The next morning we enjoyed taking a stroll in the walking track and green patch behind the houseboat The negative points were that there is no privacy to guests as vendors easily come aboard and literally yank you to look at their wares which are priced exorbitantly higher than local markets Even the help on the houseboat does not interfere and you need to attend the intruders on your own The other point is that the houseboat says WiFi connection but the same is either of low speed or the help simply won't switch out on at all times If you want to catch up on TV then you are in for a disappointment as there is only a 14" TV set for you to see the limited channels available. However, I don't think you should bother much about this as the kind of place this is, you will hardly want to see the idiot box. All in all, a great experience!
Enjoyed my three days in peacock houseboat. Nice location, good quality food. Hot water 24 hours. Will visit again. Not that costly. Nice breakfast and other meals. Huge garden outside. Some Issue with electricity, which was resolved quickly. Local vendors irritates a bit.
1. Entry point is a bit confusing but my vehicle driver got us to the perfect spot . 2. Shikara ride to houseboat is lovely. The ride to and fro is not to be paid for. You may tip as they help you with the luggage . 3. Many wares are sold by shikaras and they come up to the sitting area to show their wares. You can bargain to the extent of 50% minimum. We bought small painted Shikara for INR 150, and small boxes for INR 60. There were done painted bowls which the rate in outside ships street bargaining can be in the range of 200-400 depending on size . 4. Food is basic and average . 5. Kahwa and tea is really nice . 6. Maintained well and very clean . 7. Electricity cuts are many, however they have backup which supports basic lights . 8. Carry some drinks / snacks as it is expensive to purchase from Shikara . 9. The houseboat we stayed in was facing the lake and mountains, so had beautiful view . 10. We were 9 people in 4 rooms, so had the entire houseboat to ourselves. Rooms are very spacious . 11. There is a small kitchen, dining area, hall and a sit-out area open to the lake . 12. Most important, after seeing the crowded Dale lake, Nigeen lake was a darling spot to spend quality time with family Overall a beautiful experience and we would love to visit again.
