Go with high expectations; hotel won't disappoint

5.5/7
Posted 5 Jun, 2014

I planned my Srinagar honeymoon tour with Kites Tours and Travels and purposefully asked for Peacock Houseboats in Nageen Lake as it was referred to me by my friend. Nageen lake is known to be a silent lake as compared to Dale Lake which has more crowd. The Shikara ride, Honeymoon cake and Candle light dinner was included in the package for Peacock Houseboats. The time we took Shikara ride we were the only one in the lake. What else would you need on your first day at Honeymoon. After landing in Srinagar at around 10 AM we decided first to go to Houseboat and get fresh and then move out for sightseeing. We called up Houseboat and asked if we can come now as the booking starts from 12. They seemed to be very nice and helpful on the phone which got more concrete when we actually reached. One needs to take a Shikara to reach to the houseboat. As soon as we reached we were served with hot tea and snacks as it was very cold. We stayed for close to an hour and then when outside for sightseeing. We returned at around 5 and then we had our Shikara ride, pleasant, calm and comfortable. The Shikara person offered us the phirni (jar like thing containing hot coal to give heat). It was good Shikara ride in a silent and calm lake. Then we proceeded to Houseboat at around 6:30PM and ordered a Kashmiri KAWA (as suggested by our driver). They offered KAWA free of cost which was very good and hot enough. One won't feel cold for few hours after one cup of Kawa. At around 8 PM our Candle light dinner was ready. It was a great feeling to see a good setup of candles and aroma. It made more special after tasting the food. Awesome! Overall a very good experience whether it be hospitality, room, service or food.

Transportation facility was provided; good service

5.5/7
Posted 1 Oct, 2014

The overall, it was great ambience. Hotel people arranged transportation facility for 10 days. The hotel is situated in good location. The outside appearance of the hotel is very neat and beautiful. Staff and their service were good and they were very friendly and helpful. Front office service was good. Room was comfortable, spacious, neat and clean. They have their own food court inside the hotel. Nice vegetarian food was served. Food was very good in terms of quality. No indoor games and any other activities. Check-in and check-out procedure was on time. Recommendable to other travellers.

Good houseboat option on Nagin Lake

5.6/7
Posted 1 Jul, 2015

Anchored in the serene banks of Nagin Lake, this group of houseboats is a very good option to the ones available on the crowded yet more beautiful Dale Lake Our arrival was made special by a warm welcome by Mr. Bashir who owns the houseboat and were served the Kashmiri special Kahwa tea. He then helped us negotiate with the pursuant Shikara and we returned to the houseboat with a well spent evening ride on the Shikara to home cooked dinner served on board The walls and rooms are decorated giving you a royal feel and the ambience is very special especially if it is your first houseboat experience The next morning we enjoyed taking a stroll in the walking track and green patch behind the houseboat The negative points were that there is no privacy to guests as vendors easily come aboard and literally yank you to look at their wares which are priced exorbitantly higher than local markets Even the help on the houseboat does not interfere and you need to attend the intruders on your own The other point is that the houseboat says WiFi connection but the same is either of low speed or the help simply won't switch out on at all times If you want to catch up on TV then you are in for a disappointment as there is only a 14" TV set for you to see the limited channels available. However, I don't think you should bother much about this as the kind of place this is, you will hardly want to see the idiot box. All in all, a great experience!

Lovely unique experience

4.6/7
Posted 12 Jun, 2015

1. Entry point is a bit confusing but my vehicle driver got us to the perfect spot . 2. Shikara ride to houseboat is lovely. The ride to and fro is not to be paid for. You may tip as they help you with the luggage . 3. Many wares are sold by shikaras and they come up to the sitting area to show their wares. You can bargain to the extent of 50% minimum. We bought small painted Shikara for INR 150, and small boxes for INR 60. There were done painted bowls which the rate in outside ships street bargaining can be in the range of 200-400 depending on size . 4. Food is basic and average . 5. Kahwa and tea is really nice . 6. Maintained well and very clean . 7. Electricity cuts are many, however they have backup which supports basic lights . 8. Carry some drinks / snacks as it is expensive to purchase from Shikara . 9. The houseboat we stayed in was facing the lake and mountains, so had beautiful view . 10. We were 9 people in 4 rooms, so had the entire houseboat to ourselves. Rooms are very spacious . 11. There is a small kitchen, dining area, hall and a sit-out area open to the lake . 12. Most important, after seeing the crowded Dale lake, Nigeen lake was a darling spot to spend quality time with family Overall a beautiful experience and we would love to visit again.

Average room with limited food

4.5/7
Posted 7 Jul, 2015

Stayed here for 1 Night on 31st May 2015 check-in and 1st June check-out. Located at mesmerizing Nagin Lake, this houseboat is reasonably priced. The entrance deck is a drawing room where any of the other guests can stay. The boat I stayed in, has 2 rooms only. The room is very average. But surprisingly the Washroom/ bathroom has all modern fittings. It even had a Bath tub (don't know though if it was operating). The food in dinner is very limited with just 2 -3 dishes. However, quality was good. Soup served was just okay (guess they used packaged soup instead of fresh soup). But, no amenities except TV to spend time. You can just relax on the houseboat.

Superb hotel with well maintained facilities

Srinagar is very relaxed and peaceful place for travelers. Room was good and facilitated with TV, bed, hot water, and well maintained washroom. It was situated inside the water. It is a houseboat. Everything was good in this boat. Location of the boat was superb. Appearance of this property was attractive. I booked it on the spot, directly. I took non veg food there, it was perfect. I visited it in May month with my family. This property is recommendable and value for money.

A nice place to stay away from the hustle of Dal Lake

6.4/7
Posted 29 Mar, 2016

As mentioned in the heading above, the houseboats of Peacock are in Nigeen Lake instead of Dale Lake. As a result, its quite peaceful and serene. The view from the deck is quite nice for the mornings as well as evenings. The interiors are typical Kashmir - full of wooden engravings and carpets. Nice touch. The owner (Rahil) came personally to welcome us. The caretaker (Mohammed) was always at our service. We stayed for one night. The dinner was good but not great (As I had specifically asked for Vegetarian). Similarly the breakfast was just okay and very limited (e. G. We asked for potato Parathas for four of us (2+2), only 8 were brought with no second servings! The tea was good though. However, the owner and the caretaker took maximum care of our family and also helped us fir transportation for Gulmarg and Pahalgam. The rooms were heated with the special wood fired device as well as heated beds. I'd definitely recommend this if you need the calm and quiet experience of Srinagar Houseboat Living. And yes, the houseboat has free WiFi all over (which is a rarity in many hotels - thy only provide WiFi in lobbies. For in room service in other hotels - you have to pay!

Heavenly stay at serene Nigeen Lake

6.4/7
Posted 24 Jul, 2015

When it comes to Kashmir, only thing that comes to the mind is Heaven. The place is truly a heaven and among which Nigeen Lake is the most serene and peaceful place to enjoy your holidays Peacock houseboats is a perfect place to stay at Sringar. Nigeen lake on west of Dale lake, but there is less rush at Nigeen compared to Dale. So you will not find crowded people and can enjoy the nature and weather of Kashmir. Especially in on-season, like August, you should prefer staying at Peacock From the houseboat you get the amazing view of the lake and mountains in the back drop. Houseboat business is run by his owner who stays just in a small house at rear and he directly deals with his guests. The hospitality provides is unmatched and not even a five star hotel provide you such hospitality. The food is cooked at their house itself and served hot and is mouthwatering. Food you will get at Peacock houseboat is home like and tasty and 1000 times better than what you will eat at restaurants at Dale Lake You can also ask the owner to arrange you sightseeing and he will be more than happy to assist you. The boats are made of walnut wood and with awes trucking interior. I believe it is impossible to describe how nice is to stay at Peacock; one should go and stay their and find out themselves.
