Pin Valley National Park, created in 1987, is located in the Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh. Spread over an area of over 675 sq km, the park is located in the cold desert area with altitudes ranging from 3,500 to 6,000 metres.
Along with the Great Himalayan National Park in Kullu, it constitutes a protected area. The ecosystem of the park is maintained by the presence of the Paraiho River, which consists of rivulets, namely Kidul, Khaminger, Debsa and Kilung.
In the park, rare wildlife like snow leopards, ibex and mountain goats can be found. The flora of the park comprises herbs and shrubs, along with 400 plant species and many varieties of medicinal plants.
A visit to the park enables tourists to spot herds of ibex and bharal or blue sheep. Snow partridge, snow leopards and Himalayan snowcock inhabit the park. Permits are required from the office of the Director of the Pin Valley Park at Kaza to visit the park.
