December probably isn't the best of times to visit Kodai. But we had a pleasant stay here in PBI, courtesy the warmth of staff, and the enjoyable variety of breakfast food. Hot water is not an issue, but some rooms could be cooler as they get very little sunshine, like the one we stayed. But finally it was a choice between spacious bunker beds and the sunshine or hill view, and we took the former. Our boys-aged 11 and 8, were immediately off to explore on their own, and also made some friends in the games room cum library. They did report on the dog, the ducks, the goats and the guinea-pigs; and the outdoor shuttle-court. We went sight-seeing in the mornings, lunched in different restaurants nearby and spent lazy afternoons within the PBI hotel premises; no complaints from the kids, as they engaged themselves in indoor games. Our gracious host did show us around on the final day of our 4-day visit; the nursery and the garden, and all that our kids had reported earlier. Not for the aged to explore on their own, as the paths could get somewhat sloping down. Definitely would love to visit again. Maybe in summer, if possible.
Pine Borough Inn our second home. It was always wonderful experience at Pine Borough Inn. We originally booked a big bungalow in Kodaikanal, however we felt it was too weird, damp and dirty and wanted to cancel our trip and go back. We asked our guide for an alternate place to stay. Our guide took us to Pine Borough Inn. Thanks to him for having us introduced to this excellent place. The place was warm and cosy. The rooms were very clean and we occupied a room with a bunker bed, our kids enjoyed the most. What more, the buffet breakfast was very tasty and rendered a family atmosphere. The attenders were very kind and courteous, always willing to help. There was an indoor play area, with all the necessary amenities, we enjoyed to our heart's content in the play area. Most days, we played table tennis past mid-night and the room was shielded so well that other guests are not disturbed. It is a pleasure to walk down hill in Pine Borough Inn to enjoy the fresh air. You would notice friendly feathered creatures, they walk with you. You have swings and see-saws to relax. From then on, we made it a point to stay at Pine Borough Inn every time we visit Kodai. We came and stayed with our friends families. On one instance, we came as 2 families, with 8 members (4 adults & 4 kids). The owner helped us to occupy two adjacent rooms with connecting passage in between. It was an amazing time with both families enjoying each others company in the comfort of Kodaikanal. The flower gardens are trimmed and well-maintained. The attenders help you with a variety of mouth-watering dishes at odd times of the day. What more, we receive greetings for Christmas and New Year and it feels good to know that you are remembered at Pine Borough Inn. Just before, I filled this section, our family was living through the memory lanes viewing and enjoying the pictures of Kodai and our special place, Pine Borough Inn. In short, Pine Borough Inn is our second home.
3 nights and 4 days booked in advance, one would expect the rooms to be ready when you arrive, but we were made to wait. Though they arranged another room for us to freshen up while they tidy the allocated room, but that was not a great start to our vacation. When we finally got the room, the toiletries were missing. The rooms with three adults had 2 batch towels. We requested for it and they obliged, that is when we realized that the phone isn't working. We informed the reception, but it was not rectified even while I was checking-out after 4 days. The room mats were wet and had to request to be replaced. The hotel has a restaurant, but we were informed that it serves only on days when the bookings are full. The weekend had full bookings so they served buffet dinner on Sunday evening. They didn't serve on Monday, but on Tuesday evening informed us that they are serving dinner. Food was okay. Being a vegetarian, I can only comment on Veg. Food. Complementary breakfast was as if a favor is being done. They were short on juice, juice glasses, bread, tissues, milk, etc. We had to keep reminding them of what is not available. Someone wll then run up, wash the dishes, and bring them back. Seems they are short on resources, so there is no one to monitor. The guests are at the mercy of a few employees who though are doing their best but are unable to keep up to the requests of the guests. The promised wi-fi is available only at the reception and the dining area. Hot water is not available 24 hours. If you return to your room late in the evening and look forward to a warm Bath, you probably need to call up the room service/walk up to reception as I had to since the phone was not working. Overall, the hotel was a spoiler to the relaxed vacation I was looking up to. The stress of stay is the least thing any traveler would like to have on a vacation. That is the reason we pre-book hotels. At 3K per night, this was nothing less that fleecing travelers for next to nothing service.
Our stay at Pine Borough Inn resort was pleasant and memorable. We stayed there for 3 days. Resort manager Madhan and Travel desk person Kennedy were very helpful and polite. They provided rooms for us near the reception itself instead of in the first floor considering the age of my parents. Kennedy arranged cab for local sightseeing at affordable price. Cab driver Sateesh was very helpful and polite. Complimentary breakfast provided by resort was good and tasty. Double Rooms we booked were clean, spacious and well maintained. Hot water was available 24 hrs a day. Resort owner came to the restaurant directly and got our feedback about the facilities, food and rooms. Indoor games and garden available in the resort were good. Kodaikanal climate was very good and overall we enjoyed our stay at Pine Borough Inn.
One of the good hotels visited. This beautiful hotel is well-located, has a number of activities and facilities like Fruit Orchard, Flower garden, Moo room, Kids play area, a small pool, Hammock to relax, lush green lawn to walk upon, Badminton court and TT table for fitness enthusiasts. A well- maintained restaurant etc. To make the stay very enjoyable. The food served at the hotel is very tasty especially the idli, sambar and chutney. The hotel manager Madhan, accountant Sunder and the room service boy Jacob were indeed nice and very helpful. The hotel has a rental car service on request for sightseeing, pick and drop from bus or railway station. The owner of the rental car service Kennedy was exceptionally nice, well-informed, had great patience and made sure we visited the best of Kodaikanal and have a memorable experience. Not to forget Senthil and Alpons who were co-driving. Most of our requests were taken care of. One small thing missing was the Wi-Fi in the rooms were not enabled but otherwise everything here was very good and we had a great, safe and very enjoyable trip.
