About Pine Forest

voted as clean

The Pine Forest was cultivated by one Mr Bryant in Kodaikanal in 1906 with the idea of having a timber forest for valuable wood. The place turned out to be a popular holiday destination and now lures multitudes of visitors to it from all over.

Kodaikanal brings respite to visitors from the heat of the adjoining cities with its pleasant climate throughout the year. This hill station, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, is 2000 metres above sea level, set in the Ghat section of granite cliffs which are completely covered with Pine forests, waterfalls and lakes and grassy slopes. The star-shaped lake is a man-made one and the town is situated around it.

A honeymooners’ paradise with a laidback pace, the town has several holiday activities to offer, having a stroll through the Pine Forest being one of them. Sunlight shimmering through the pine trees is a visual delight.

Camping and trekking in the midst of these sylvan surroundings, while enjoying succulent jackfruit lobes, which are available in plenty in these parts, is sheer bliss. Many Indian movies have been filmed here and it is a popular location for movie makers. Driving to Kodaikanal is the easiest way to get there either from the cities of Tamil Nadu or even from Mysore in Karnataka.

It's a forest of pines and I don't think there is anything to see but the thing you would love is it produces great senario that will help in good pics clicking.
But BEWARE OF PHOTO BOMBERS.

"Uniformity of nature"

Its a nice place to see. Don't expect more. You can just see the pine trees around. What made me wonder is that by seeing the uniformity of trees growing in their respective columns. One can do horse riding from there. Photos that took from there was just awesome.

"Wonderful clean expanse of Greens in the woods!"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Jul 31, 2016
The British unarguably made some valuable contributions and this place is the result of the same while in 1906, Mr. Bryant, the then Forest Officer of Madurai, decided for a pine plantation because of valuable timber. As of now, it is lovely fresh destination with loads of pine trees, some of which are more than 100 years old and covers an area of about 600 acres. You can take a short walk amidst the wonderful terrain and rejuvenate into a fantastic, relaxed and oxygen rich soul.

Pine forest in kodai is a beautiful forest and you can find a small waterfall inside the forest. The water is clean, however the path is rugged and slippery. It is a nice place to roam around and click pictures.

"Far too crowded !"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted May 18, 2016
The pine forest is indeed nice. It would be a great place to walk around. However, in May the crowds make it a less than satisfying experience. It was very difficult to park the car and the forest was overcrowded. May be a visit in another time would be worth it.

"A natural beauty"

  • 5.5/7
  • Posted Apr 24, 2016
This is in the forest area of KodaiKanal. Plastic bags are not allowed, also you get to see a lot of monkeys while you visit this place. Please be aware they might snatch away any food which is in your hands. Good place which is a natural beauty however please do not go too inside as there would be leeches. While visiting with kids please ensure they do not near the monkeys.

No activities here, you can take some selfies/group pics here.

Wear long boots just to be on safe side.

"One of the favourite"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Mar 31, 2016
Though I visited this place many times it is my one of the favourite spot. No entry fee, this place is full of pine trees, these pine cones spread around ground with dett shapes and sizes look immediately. If we walk down to edge(100 mts) there will be a small water body where kids can enjoy very well.

CAUTIONS : Aware of Monkeys, they may attack on you for the food, so please take care of ourselves and food from monkeys. Visit it in the early morning to enjoy the spot(later it will be crowded). Wear proper footwear to survive in this forest, best place to take pictures and Horse Riding is also available.
